Funniest line goes to Michelle Malkin, commenting on the snide, biased coverage by the NY Times of Bobby's progressive conservatism and his astonishing victory:

"Blasphemy! How could someone who is both a Rhodes Scholar and from a racial minority believe that stuff? Those are The Wrong Ideas, and in the New York Intelligentsia’s reckoning, Rep. Jindal might as well be wearing overalls, chugging moonshine, and a plucking a four-string banjo as he wipes the stains from his lunch of pan-fried squirrel from his cheek with a Confederate flag bandana and contemplates assaulting suburban canoeists".

I’d just be satisfied to see the culture of corruption cleaned up in Lousiana. If the party affiliation changes but the corruption remains, it does us no favors.

I don't think it will happen in our lifetime. From Long to Edwards (Edwin) to El Blanco, nothing has changed. It's a major reason I refuse to do business in Louisiana.

Edwards couldn’t seek a third consecutive term in 1979, but Treen’s election was largely seen as a sign the voters were fed up with the corrupt ‘Rat machine.

That's not how I remember it. EWE was barred from running again once he had served two consecutive terms but was eligible to serve again after sitting out for four years. So he refused to annoint a successor and then immediately started to organize as a sort of governor-in-exile. He lined up supporters, cut various crooked deals for who would benefit once he was back in, and undercut Gov. Treen at every turn. Four years later Edwards came roaring back, ran a lavishly funded and brutal campaign, and trounced Treen.

Gerald Long, a member of the Long family, was elected to the state Senate from Natchitoches on Saturday. He is apparently the only Long family member to have switched to GOP allegiance.

He beat Taylor Townsend, a tax and spend Rat who’s been in the state House. A particularly sweet win.

I didn’t recall all the details of the Edwards machine!

During EWE's four years in abeyance while Dave Treen served a single term, he received massive "consulting fees" from corporations that subsequently found themselves the winners of lucrative state contracts to build and run public hospitals once Fast Eddie was back in the Governor's mansion. Edwin W. Edwards was a crook through and through. His final term (when he beat David Duke in a runoff after incumbant Buddy Roemer came in third or fourth in the open primary) he campaigned on the slogan "Vote for the crook, it's important!" EWE acknowledged that he had previously been on the take but insisted that he had turned over a new leaf and that his final term would restore his reputation and help the State "for his grandchildren". This was more lies. He was just as crooked as ever and totay is living out his final years in federal prison having been convicted of crimes he committed as Governor during that last term. To Hell with Edwin W. Edwards.

As long as the dems remain in power...that culture will not end. This is a start....as they say...you've got to start some place...and putting a Republican in as governor...that capitol city will start to turn Republican.

People of Louisiana spoke...this of course is the aftermath of Katrina...when folks were fed it was the feds fault...they knew better...they knew this disaster was the state rats that created the Katrina sorrow...fool me once...you'll not fool me twice...Blanko is now gone and Nagin will be outed too [especially now that the crime/killing is so high again in N.O.'s]. People in N.O.'s are fed up now. You could make excuses, but 2 yrs later...I mean come on...the criminals have left Houston and Texas are back in full force in N.O.'s...killing the citizens left and right. The mayor of N.O.'s doesn't seem to have a real clue on how to stop the crime.

Good question... Now that LA has a Republican Governor maybe a candidate for that senate seat will step forward.

LOL...this is the new Katrina disaster...the state turns RED...HA HA...people of Louisiana have spoken loud and clear. The dems tried to blame a Republican President for the aftermath of Katrina...didn't fool the citizens of Louisiana for one minute. They knew better...

Ha ha— I knew as soon as I posted something I would ruin it. And believe me, it’s not the first time that sort of thing has happened to me. So, excuse me, I need to go gobble this egg off my face...
