In 1999, Taylor Townsend ended the state House career of Rep. Jimmy Long, a Democrat. In 2007, Gerald Long, Jimmy’s younger brother, defeated Townsend for an open seat in the state Senate. I have heard of no other Long family politico being Republican. The late Fox McKeithen, however, came from the Long organization when he switched parties in the late 1980s.
Congratulations, Count.
...could this be the first faint sounds of wheels coming off of that whole corrupt traitorcrat political machine?

I’m very familiar with that same jinx! God bless!
An independent candidate did better than the Democrat.
Maybe there will be more Independents if this continues...
The Independent that came in second was John Georges, I believe...
An independent finished considerably ahead of the Democrat...
Memaw tanked!
Hopefully your ditzy senator will be next. It seems New Orleans just cannot turn out the “bloc vote” like they once were able to...
Senator Landrieu has reason to worry.
Jindal will be attacked endlessly. He’s got a big target on his back.
thank god. I truly didn’t expect him to win, although I voted for him.
I can wait to see how Houston’s elections turn out this year. That’s where a good portion of NO moved.
I had heard that; the rates of illegitimacy, welfare dependency, abortions and democrat-voting should all skyrocket in the Houston area.
...encourage european immigration from South Africa and your city will become republican even more quickly...
Louisiana alone is a case in point for repeal of the 17th Amendment...a whore and a whoremonger. We can do much better; hopefully this gubernatorial election is a sign of things to come.
Before all the Vitter defenders come down on me (uh, no pun intended, really) I use to be a staunch defender of his. Before you jump all over me and tell me how wonderful he was in opposing immigration reform, I would only ask you to consider this remark:
It is a very sad state our senate and our nation have fallen into when we commend, laud and salute people merely for doing what they're supposed to do, i.e., what they're elected to do, i.e., what they're hired to do. If I hire somebody to dig a ditch in my yard, or wash my car, I don't have a celebration and award them great recognition for simply doing what I hired them to do. I "hired" Senator Vitter to be a strong advocate on immigration enforcement, national security, pro-life, and other traditional conservative issues. He has done what many have hired him to do. The fact that he and a few others have, and many others haven't is more cause to fire the others than to really praise those that have. In short, I elected him to represent ME, and his personal behavior has been a serious disappointment. I participate in the electorate process, volunteered for his campaign and take his behavior personally.
We can do better as a State, a Senate, a party and a nation.
I almost asked to have my post deleted as self-abuse. But, then I figured I deserved any comments directed my way. What an exciting game though— congrats!
