U.S. irked about Chinese attack helicopters with Canadian engines
CBC News ^ | October 19, 2007

Manufacturer says they were sold for use only in civilian craft.

The U.S. State Department is investigating how aircraft engines made near Montreal ended up in attack helicopters in China.

The maker, Pratt and Whitney Canada, says it did nothing illegal. It delivered 10 engines to Bejing in 2001 and 2002 on condition they be used only in civilian aircraft. The Liberal government of the day approved the deal, a decision the present Conservative government is supporting.

But Washington is not happy. If the engines contain U.S. technology or parts, the company could be hit with big fines for violating U.S. export laws.

It has been confirmed that the Chinese military put the Canadian engines in Z-10 attack helicopters, which can carry up to 16 anti-tank missiles.

An American military analyst, Richard Fisher, said it should come as no surprise that China ignored the conditions of the sale.

"Somebody is asleep," he told CBC News. "I would suggest the Canadian government was not defending the interests of the Canadian people.

The Z-10 is just one major military program amongst hundreds that China is pursuing in order to prepare for a possible war against Taiwan."

Gee, is this something new? Our technology to China? Let me think. Clinton. Oh yeah, that does ring a bell. And Carter. Another bell. It’s all about money and screw our security.

..so sorry.

This is not a good thing...but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what our own US government did and allowed to transpire under Clinton and Ron Brown.

The Chinese are expanding, modernizing, and equiping across the bord for modern warfare...and they know that they will ultimately have to face us. In the mean time, though our technology continues to imp[rove, our numbers, across the board (in terms of aircraft, ships, systems, etc.) are at very low levels.

Pratt and Whitney Canada needs to be banned from all American contracting or subcontracting for a decade or two.

Just wait until the PRC orders tooling machines from the US or Canada to copy the engines.

These engines are another small drop in the bucket.

Now, if the Clintons return...

Oh drop the nonsense, Jeff. Everyone in the WH has been selling us out. Not just Clinton.

President George Bush (Sr.) approved the sale of military transport aircraft to China, including several Lockheed C-130 heavy lift transport aircraft that were purchased by Air China, an airline 100 percent owned by the communist government.

The Chinese military will be in great shape, when their economy melts down, and they need to quell food riots.

Unfortunately the GWB White House is doing the same thing. We're giving the entire country away to China and Mexico, just to name a couple. If anyone disputes that, they are not aware of reality.

Don’t you recognize the hard fact, it is all about money. Anything is for sale for enough money.

Just like the Brits giving Stalin a prototype jet engine after the war.
Can’t we all just get along?
The Chinese are laughing at Canada the way Stalin laughed at Great Britain. History repeats itself once again.

How many guidance systems did Loral sell the PRC to allow Chinese satellites to attain orbit?

Sell anything to a Chinese industry and the 'end user' is always the CPC.
