The existing candidates will post their spin in response to my idea, but again its an idea that I humbly offer.
Otherwise, we will have to live with the existing political situation.
Choose among the big guys in the race now.
Tell the whole story, he voted to remove Clinton for the obstruction of justice charge. Quit telling half the story! Plain and simple, Fred Thompson voted to remove Bill Clinton from office. Try to disupte that, if you please.
Ann Coulter is a liar....am I on the Daily Kos....
This thread is a waste of band width.
When you told that lie about Fred Thompson, I knew I’d read too far.
No, the man is a great SCOTUS Justice, he has almost no qualifications to be POTUS besides being a conservative.
What is it with people who think non politician who have never ran for public office, run a political campaign, legislate bills and all the other leadership qualifications to takes to win a political contest and represent consituents can step into the highest, most powerful, most difficult job in the world being POTUS?
Heck, since we are playing fantasy here, how about a Clarence Thomas / Condi Rice ticket.
What is it with all this bashing of Fred Thompson by fellow conservatives? What has he done that is so awful? Is it because he speaks softly and doesn't come out swinging at his opponents? He answers questions with calmness, composure, maturity, and honesty, and he even has a very good sense of humor. He doesn't claim to have an answer for something he hasn't studied, and he doesn't claim to know everything or have an answer for everything. But, that doesn't mean he doesn't have any answers or that he doesn't have any plan. Fred Thompson is a man of integrity, has experience in politics, has moral conservative values and is patriotic. So, what is the problem?
Certainly, why anyone would choose Mick Romney or Rudy Giuliani over Fred Thompson is beyond my comprehension.
Oh, I see now! Is it because Fred Thompson is short on the details? It is true that he doesn't have a ten point detailed plan for solving all hunger in our nation and in the world. Or, maybe, it's because he doesn't have a detailed plan to solve race relations, eradicate all crime, homelessness, make America energy independent by 2010, remove all threats of terrorism, guarantee a job for every American, find money to pay off all our national debt? Hey, I admit he is way short on those details. He certainly is no match for Romney and Giuliani in having the answers to those problems!
We Americans want action! We don't want a soft-speaking, mature, composured man of integrity and honesty. We want a political man who comes out swinging, can speak a thousand words a second, doesn't take time to think before answering a difficult question, is mean enough to leave wide bleeding marks on the face of any opponent. We need a Romney or Giuliani. Yeah! We love boxing, wrestling(oh, the joy and the thrill of it), political opponents who will shout, snarl, punch with their fists here and there and everywhere. Let's admit it. Thompson simply is boring. He isn't exciting enough, as if we don't have enough exciting things happening around in the world.
Thompson has the big picture. Discerning the forest from the trees is always the first step. As for details, he doesn't really lag behind anyone else and he doesn't claim to have them like everyone else. He has the solid principles by which to discover, guide, and manage the details. He doesn't have what it takes to make America and the world perfect, only a better place.
There are some very good conservatives other than Fred Thompson running, but Thompson has better name recognition (especially from being an actor as was President Ronald Reagan) and he also leads the others in polls so, to me at least, Fred Thompson is a wise choice for conservatives.
Looking at the unwarranted bashing that Fred Thompson is receiving from fellow conservatives, I can clearly see that politicians aren't always the main problem. We American voters better grow up!
My 16 yo grandson asked for the opportunity to hear Justice Thomas speak. We are going to a luncheon on Tuesday for that opportunity.
Well, at least we are getting a whole story here but there’s no doubt in my mind that we have in Fred Thompson a McCain-Feingold man, too.
Thompson is a product of the East Tennessee Republican “moderate” establishment of Howard Baker and Lamar Alexander.
They never were Ronald Reagan’s to be sure although Baker served Reagan as chief of staff.
I want a principled candidate, not one who talks conservative and acts liberal.
I think its something to think about and talk about in contrast to the existing situation.
But Supreme Court justice could be a 'cushier' job than President. Potentially a life term and you don't criticized so much for not going to work every day. So it's improbable that Thomas could be convinced to run.
And Thomas wouldn't be both President and Supreme Court justice simultaneously.
That sounds great, I’m sure your grandson will remember the luncheon the rest of his life. How nice that the two of you can share that special day.
Thompson still voted with Jeffords, Snowe and Collins not to remove Clinton on the other count-perjury.
I think frankly that Justice Thomas is a more principled man than Mr. Thompson is, that’s why I offered this suggestion about a Thomas candidacy today.
I don’t want you to think I’m picking on Fred Thompson, per se but the other guys who are big names all have problems, too.
No thanks to you! According to your FR home page you're a former journalist, so you must know disinformation when you spread it.
Shame on you! ...Oh wait. Your page also says you now work for the govt. Never mind! :)
A half-truth is a lie, non?
It is a great way to further his education, even with him not being in school. It is even worth going into downtown Dallas.
