Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. "I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that... |

Mike Huckabee on Tuesday defended illegal immigrants against a radio caller's criticism and sympathized with former convicts' inability to vote in Arkansas. Huckabee, in his monthly radio call-in show on the Arkansas Radio Network, also repeated his reasons for supporting a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriages and for opposing an amendment that would allow lawmakers to stay in office longer. Chris from Cabot, who thanked Huckabee for speaking at his Fellowship Bible Church, asked the governor about the status of a proposed amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman. He (like McCain, Graham, et al) is one of those recent converts to 'secure the border', since he sees that is a major election issue.
[Note that these recent 'secure the border' converts are not denouncing amnesty for illegals nor The Dream Act that is still floating around in the Senate. Why? Because supporting 'secure the border' sounds good without forcing them to state that they oppose open borders and amnesty for illegals. Their 'secure the border' is a ploy to help get them elected.]
The amnesty bill in the senate was so bad that a lot of somewhat pro-amnesty people opposed it.
I’m not entirely against what people call “amnesty” for all illegal immigrants currently living in the country, but I strongly opposed the senate bill, which went WAY TOO FAR.
Note Huckabee wants to deport illegals who commit OTHER crimes. He doesn’t say what to do with the rest of them.
I appreciate the post. Evidently between two and three years ago he made some incredibly obnoxious comments about illegal aliens to the effect that calls for cracking down weren’t good.
The list of opinions you posted were actually quite good.
The other day someone posted some of his past comments and it was a real eye opener for me. I don’t know if he’s had his Romney moment or what, but this doesn’t strike me as consistant on the subject.
I do think it’s good that you brought this up, and I’ll try to do some nosing around to see what I can find.
Thank you.
“Illegal immigrants already living among us who commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.”
“... who commit crimes ...” ??
They’ve already committed crimes and do so every day they are here, working under false SS#s and cheating the American taxpayers by having us pay for their kids to go to school, free medical care, free school lunch programs, foodstamps, etc.
The fact that Huckabee obviously doesn’t consider those as “crimes” is one strike against him. His second strike is the whiff of class warfare pandering you get from him. Minor in Sunday’s debate but blatant in the Oct 9th debate.
