Not mentioned in the article is the reason for the absences: continued rumors of race-related attacks between black students and white students.
As everyone at FR should know by know, Ithaca prides itself on being "the most enlightened city in America." Yet, here we are with with a school in lockdown and students afraid to attend.
Another liberal "success story" I guess.
Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Another “feel-good” liberal response designed to fit the political correctionists’ agenda.

In my very conservative town, all the doors leading to classrooms were locked from the outside. Of course like most public buildings the doors are always open from the inside.

A mother is accusing the Ithaca school district of failing to protect her child from threats and racism. The state human rights commission is taking the case to the New York State Supreme Court. "She was attacked on the school bus. She stepped off the school bus to speak to a friend and someone spat out of the window onto her face, says Amelia Kearney, the victims mom.
"One of the boys held up a sign that said, KKK I hate n****ers
they said they had a gun with her name on it."
After writing letters, emails and making phone calls to the Ithaca School District,Amelia Kearney went to the New York State Division of Human Rights to get help for her daughter.
"This is not the only incident. So many others go unchecked its the bravery of Amelia Kearney that brings this to light today, says Sarenda Lourdes of the Race Liberation Alliance, ACTION.

Assuming the allegations are true, why did Ms. Kearney continue placing her child on that bus, and in that school? Parental neglect is a far bigger contributor to Epiphany's problem than the inaction of some administrator in a far off office.

Police and school officials are working together to ensure the students' safety. Two groups many of us find hard to take seriously these days. Their tandem performances are a sorry sight to behold.

MY old high school often gets mixed up with the juvenile detention center or the prison that is a ways up from there. Being locked into the classroom would have made it feel like a real prison.

In addition to the fire code problem... how would locking students inside a room with an armed psycho help them? They are ignoring the basic fact that the shooters are almost universally students themselves.

I can't believe the fire marshal is going along with this.

Well, know we know something about The Ithaca Police Department.
1. They don't watch "FutureWeapons" on "The Discovery Channel"
(to see how shotguns are AT THE LEAST a method of choice in
opening locked doors).
AND/OR
2. They "Don't Know Diddley" about shotguns, even though some
truly excellent shotguns bear the imprinted name of "Ithaca".

The most obvious change students can expect to see will be locked classroom doors once classes start. Pastel said one recommendation that came from the Ithaca Police Department last week was to lock doors at the beginning of every class. Hmmmm...I wonder what the local fire marshal has to say about that?

Evidently the "Finger Lakes News Radio" media folks think that pointing out that race relations are at the heart of the lockdown would be too much enlightenment for the citizens of the most enlightened city in America.

An estimated 700 students were absent on Thursday, following rumors earlier in the week that something violent would occur at the school.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
That 700 student were absent due to “rumors” of violence is the real story here. Notice that we can always depend on the liberal\Marxist media to focus on the irrelevant.
By the way,,,doesn’t this school’s reaction sound a lot like a prison “lock down”?
