Yes. It appears the GW hysterics might be best described as 21st century eugenicists.

Prof. Lovelock is actually a staunch supporter of nuclear energy, he believes it is the only solution to global warming.

IMHO, regardless of whether global warming is true or not, getting off of mid-east oil would be great.

and that more than 6 billion people will perish by the end of the century

Wow! Just think how less crowded the beaches will be.

And a hard rain’s gonna fall..

I’ll be 93 in 2040.. If I live that long.

Hopefully, we can use all the films, video, and news articles to prosecute Gore and the other global warming advocates that are still alive..

"At the age of eighty-eight..."

Classic case of a man nearing the end of his own life and thinking the world can't or won't go on with out him. I'll bet he's an atheist too. DeGaulle said the graveyards are full of indispensible men.

To those of us preoccupied by the motivations which propel the left, this is a fascinating glimpse Into the Holy Of Holies. To say that the environmental movement has become the organized religion of the left is only to recite a commonplace. But here we get to see exactly how the catechism is written-and when necessary, re-written.

So, when computer models serve their purpose, the left invokes them and when they frustrate their ends they dismiss them, both of which Lovelock did himself in this article. Thus we got the modern equivalent of stone tablets rendering us our commandments as needed. When Lovelock flies too close to the sun with his creation of Gaia thus foreclosing the ability of liberals to play God, he is rebuked and admonished and brought back into the fold where he reassures all liberals that they are the nerves of the Eco system. Thus they have not only the right but the duty and responsibility to set things right and regulate the whole world.

One could go on and pluck out more flamboyant trespasses on Judeo- Christian epistemology, but the point is made

In 90 years, they will look back and mock this fool, like we mock the NY Times, who once said (around 1920 I believe), that space travel was impossible. Like we mock Neville Chamberlain for his peace in our times nonsense, and like we mock the people who wanted to close the U.S. patent office around 1890, because they concluded that ‘everything that could be invented, had been invented’. The future is always better than the naysayers predict. We’ll be OK.

Well done. However, you left out an important reference to Thomas Malthus.:-)

Well, if its in the Rolling Stone is has to be true.

As long as it is still the 1960s and you are still high from Woodstock.

These climate hystericals are probably going to start quoting Nostradomus next to ‘prove’ that its all going to end soon.

Another passage from the article you posted:

“In the 1970s, Lovelock upended all this with a simple question: Why is the Earth different from Mars and Venus, where the atmosphere is toxic to life? In a flash of insight, Lovelock understood that our atmosphere was created not by random geological events but by the cumulative effusion of everything that has ever breathed, grown and decayed. Our air “is not merely a biological product,” Lovelock wrote, “but more probably a biological construction: not living, but like a cat’s fur, a bird’s feathers or the paper of a wasp’s nest, an extension of a living system designed to maintain a chosen environment.” According to Gaia theory, life is not just a passenger on Earth but an active participant, helping to create the very conditions that sustain it. It’s a beautiful idea —life begets life. It was also right in tune with the post-flower-child mood of the Seventies. Lovelock was quickly adopted as a spiritual guru, the man who killed God and put the planet at the center of New Age religious experience.”

An accurate summation of why we should ignore the Global Warming Crowd. It is religion, not science.

What really irritates me, is that these hystericals would call you a Global Warming DENIER i.e. juxtaposing it to a DENIER of the Holocaust.

Atlanta will end up a kudzu jungle.

Predicting things that have already happened? Big whoop. They already have enough to feed the world. Say, that isn't so bad after all!

To cook with Kudzu, choose only the smallest, most tender leaves. Large leaves are too tough. Even the small leaves have plenty of body. Fresh and tender, the leaves have a flavor similar to that of a green bean. That's because Kudzu is a member of the legume family.

Deep Fried Kudzu Leaves

Pick light green leaves, 2-inch size.

Thin batter made with iced water and flour
Oil

Heat oil. Rinse and dry kudzu leaves, then dip in batter (chilled). Fry oil quickly on both sides until brown. Drain on paper toweling. Eat while warm.

Kudzu Blossom Jelly

Spoon over cream cheese, or melt and serve over waffles and ice cream. The blossom liquid is gray until lemon juice is added.

4 cups Kudzu blossoms
4 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 (1 3/4-ounce) package powered pectin
5 cups sugar

Wash Kudzu blossoms with cold water, and place them in a large bowl. Pour 4 cups boiling water over blossoms, and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight. Pour blossoms and liquid through a colander into a Dutch oven, discarding blossoms. Add lemon juice and pectin; bring to a full rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly.

Stir in sugar; return to a full rolling boil, and boil, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat; skim off foam with a spoon. Quickly pour jelly into hot, sterilized jars, filling to 1/4 inch from top. Wipe jar rims. Cover at once with metal lids, and screw on bands.

Process in boiling water bath 5 minutes. Cool on wire racks. YIELD: 6 half pints.

Rolled Kudzu Leaves

Kudzu Leaves
1 can diced tomatoes
2 teaspoons salt
3 cloves garlic, cut in half
Juice of 3 lemons
Bacon Grease (optional)

Stuffing ingredients: 1 cup rice, rinsed in water
1 pound ground lamb or lean beef
1 cup canned diced tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon of allspice
Salt and Pepper to taste

Gather about 30 medium-sized young kudzu leaves. Make sure area has not been sprayed with chemicals to kill the Kudzu.

Wash leaves. Drop into salted boiling water. Boil a 2-3 minutes, separating leaves. Remove to a plate to cool. Remove heavy center stems from the leaves by using a knife and cutting down each side of the stem to about the middle of the leaf. Combine all stuffing ingredients and mix well.

Push cut sides together and fill with 1 teaspoon stuffing and roll in the shape of a cigar. Place something in bottom of a large pan so that rolled leaves will not sit directly on the bottom of the pan. Bacon grease is great for seasoning.

Arrange Kudzu rolls alternately in opposite directions. When all are in the pot, pour in a can diced tomatoes, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 3 cloves of garlic, cut in half. Press down with an inverted dish and add water to reach dish. Cover pot and cook on medium for 30 minutes. Add lemon juice and cook 10 minutes more.

Kudzu Quiche

Makes 4-6 servings.

1 cup heavy cream
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup chopped, young, tender Kudzu leaves and stems
1/2 teaspoon salt
Ground pepper to taste
1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1 nine-inch unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cream, eggs, kudzu, salt, pepper, and cheese. Place in pie shell. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until center is set.

Kudzu Tea

Kudzu leaves
Mint
Honey

Simmer 1 cup of finely chopped Kudzu leaves in a quart of water for 30 minutes. Drain and serve with honey and a sprig of mint. If you prefer a sweeter taste use honey to sweeten the tea.

Welcome Welcome to the personal website of James Lovelock, originator of Gaia theory, inventor of the electron capture detector (which made possible the detection of CFCs and other atmospheric nano-pollutants) and of the microwave oven. We aim to add further content - articles, scientific papers and speeches - over coming weeks and months. Please come back soon to see the latest additions.

You have to love his invention of the microwave oven, but I'd like to take a look under the hood of that electron capture detector to see if he's been cooking the books all these years. And do you suppose that he got it on with Rachel Carson?
