Senator Fred Thompson today unveiled a comprehensive border security and immigration enforcement proposal that would make America safer by increasing security at our nation’s borders, enforcing our country’s existing laws to reduce the incentive for illegal immigration and streamlining the legal immigration process.
“A country that cannot secure its borders will not remain a sovereign nation and you cannot have national security without border security,” said Thompson. “It’s not only necessary for any meaningful immigration reform, but border security plays a key role in both the interdiction of illegal drugs and in defending America against terrorist threats. Weak borders allow terrorists and smugglers, as well as millions of illegal aliens, easy entrance to the United States.”

Fred has the name recognition and the gravitas and the knowledge to be a great president. Hunter could set himself on fire and people would say, “Oh, yeah, that’s the guy that built some fence somewhere, eh?” Sad, but true. :-(
We need BOTH of these good men in office—Fred in 2008 with DH at his side as VP—then DH as President in 2012 and 2016!! :-)

Sounds like you'll be supporting Fred.
If Fred were to offer some specifics in these areas as to how he would accomplish this work dealing with the entrenched bureaucrats in D.C. who will work against these 24/7, he'd certainly gain lots of voters, including independents and dimocRATS.

Metro funding Spanish lessons

Metro officials are spending nearly $12,000 to teach employees Spanish at the same time the transit agency has proposed increasing rider fares to help cover a budget deficit.
Agency employees this month began taking basic Spanish as part of a pilot project that aims to fulfill federal requirements mandating better service for customers with limited English proficiency.
"It's a business need that we have, to communicate with those that do not speak the English language," Metro spokeswoman Joanne Ferreira said.
Metro is paying a contractor $11,900 to teach 18 employees, and the money will come from the agency's $1.9 billion budget for fiscal 2008, Mrs. Ferreira said.
The program begins as General Manager John Catoe negotiates with Metro board members on the extent of fare increases to cut a roughly $109 million budget deficit in fiscal 2009.

I’ll take Thompson’s “late, right and viable” over Hunter’s “early and useless”.

If he gets the nomination, yes I will vote for him. As far as him or anyone else achieving anything when it come to illegal immigration, I am very skeptical.
Despite the political polarization, the one thing the drives the Democrats more than hatred of Republicans is the love of their own jobs -- a President who gets elected largely on the strength of immigration enforcement and who has the ability to go directly to the people to get them involved will put the fear of the voter into them.

I’d dispute that - but it remains irrelevant. What is indisputable is that Thompson’s garnering 10 to 20 TIMES the support of Hunter. Campaign effectiveness is an essential element of a Presidential candidate ... Hunter doesn’t pass the test.

And how exactly do you expect him to take action without first getting elected by telling us what he'll do as President? Sheesh, at least make sense if you're going to try to criticise.
Here’s what I do know.
In the last 20 years NOTHING has been done to curb illegal immigration.
A Republican President going up against a Socialist Democrat controlled Congress will get nothing done when it comes to illegals.
700 Miles of fence has been written into LAW and maybe 15 miles of fence has been built.
In 2-3 years time you will find out I am right.
