Japanese have a canny disguise

CANNY Japanese folk have found a way to hide from muggers – by disguising themselves as VENDING MACHINES.

They wear this amazing cloth outfit which transforms from a skirt to look like a Coca-Cola dispenser.

Then they blend into the background to dodge muggers plaguing the streets of Tokyo. The only giveaway is the pair of feet sticking out of the bottom.

Designer Aya Tsukioka, 29, said the outfits were inspired by ancient ninjas, who wore black robes to blend in with the night. She added: “It is just easier for Japanese to hide. Making a scene would be too embarrassing.”

Her other creations include a back-pack that looks like a fire hydrant and a manhole cover shoulder bag.

Although crime rates are actually decreasing in Japan, an experimental fashion designer has found a new way to shield herself from any potential attackers - by dressing like a vending machine to blend into the Tokyo surroundings.

Aya Tsukioka invented the strange design in the hope that it will ease Japan's increasing fear of crime.

An acute anxiety about safety is emerging amongst the Japanese - which has been fanned by sensationalist news media. But instead of conventional crime deterrents like pepper spray or tazers, they are devising a new array of novel solutions. Some are high tech, others are odd, but all of them reflect a uniquely Japanese sensibility.

“It is just easier for Japanese to hide,” Ms. Tsukioka said of her vending machine outfit. “Making a scene would be too embarrassing.” She said her disguise was inspired by a trick used by the ancient ninja, who cloaked themselves in black blankets at night.

Off the wall says: She's not totally safe from an attack. How many times have you kicked a vending machine when it didn't work?

So, as I understand it, the idea here is that when you are walking on the street and you witness a mugging, instead of rendering assistance to the victim or restraining the thief or calling for police, you can now hide.

Astonishing.

The real threat is molestation at the hands of people reaching in the slot in an attempt to steal a soda.

As well as perverts using these in order to get near children looking for a sweet drink.

I like the way we do it in Texas. We disguise ourselves as gunmen.

Maybe they should try the Jedi Mind Trick.

“This is not the mugging victim you’re looking for.”

Or, you can videotape it and make fun of the victim.

So Japanese girls now become transformers. Cute idea, but I don’t think it’s realistic.

I’d rather have a couple of full cans of coke in a sock to hit them with.

Why not disguise yourself as a douchebag, which is what you’ll look like anyway wearing a vending machine costume.
