I won’t give up on CO yet. Wasn’t there a poll recently that showed the race essentially tied? Sounds like the Republican has a shot. Perhaps if the right Republican is at the top of the ticket, then Sununu could pull an upset and win in NH too. If he loses though I guess that state is essentially gone. What a shame. I suppose Gregg would face a strong challenge in 2010, if he even bothers to run.

I would be interested in seeing that poll. Do you have a url? Charlie Cook seems to think Udall should have a fairly easy time. But if our man is close I would be delighted.

Yes, that's right. Despite better name recognition and funding, Udall is fighting some headwinds.

Colorado is still a blue state. We have a large Republican registration advantage. What has happened the last couple of election cycles is a handful of very rich liberals have used 547's to buy elections. (Thank you John McCain!) Still, the kind of Democrats who win here are moderates, or at least are good at pretending. Udall's seat is based in Boulder and he's never before needed to pretend, he's just been an unabashed liberal. In contrast, Shaffer is a solid conservative, but he's a very likable guy and has never come across as hard edged.

We definitely have a shot.
