The article doesn’t say if he called her or she called him. I’ll guess she’s the one who initiated the call.

On one hand, I feel bad that he died and she had to listen to it happen.

On the other hand, as the Grail knight said in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”: He chose...poorly.
