A Valley immigrants rights activist headed to Washington, D.C., today to meet with the Hispanic Caucus and talk about the relationship between Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
``We hope that this will start what ends up in actually an overview of the operations between Sheriff Arpaio and ICE," said Salvador Reza, who runs a north Phoenix day labor center.
``Up until today, Sheriff arpaio has been arresting day laborers, journalists, a lot of vendors, but he has over 70,000 warrants that he has not taken care of," Reza said. He said some of those warrants date back at least two years.
Reza said Arpaio is not going after criminals.
``He's going after vendors and he's going after even the newspaper people, but he's not really going after the criminals because there's over 70,000 warrants outstanding and, instead of going down, they're going higher," Reza said.
And, he said the sheriff is doing a lot of damage.
``He's creating a fear in the community that we will not stand for."
Reza hopes federal officials will check into Arpaio's relationship with ICE and take an oversight role.
Will he display his La Raza tee shirt?...............
Wait. A self-confessed criminal who acknowledges running an unlawful day work center for other criminals is being invited to speak at the Dem Congress?
You notice there is no mention of ILLEGAL immigrants.
He should fit right in with the Dhimmcrats then.
And the problem with Joe is WHAT exactly?
I believe he is short on manpower to arrest more of these illegals.
Phoenix is a sanctuary city - they have been trying to get an ordinance passed so it’s probably legal by now. It’s hard to keep track.
“After graduating from the University of California, San Diego, he worked for California immigrant advocacy groups and was drawn to Phoenix because he is among those who consider the city the center of Aztlan, the original land of the Aztecs before they moved south to what later became Mexico.”

Or, they are all in Mexico.
Of course. One criminal to a den of thieves.
There, fixed it
Apparently, the complaint is that criminals should be rounded up on a first-come-first-serve basis.
New criminals should be ignored until the previously identified criminals have been caught.
Sure. That makes sense.
I think I heard something about Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon possibly running for governor.
Anyone else hear that?
``He’s creating a fear in the community that we will not stand for.”
We are here and we are IN YOUR FACE!
So sick of this crap.
God forbid that a county sheriff and the Department of Homeland Security should actually talk to each other and enforce the law. What is it these people don’t get about the rule of law? Is the concept so foreign to those who speak Spanish that it is incomprehensible? And before I am flamed, let me state that I am Hispanic and am a native speaker of Spanish — and I GET IT. Why don’t they? And why do they feel like they can do to Washington, D.C and DEMAND THAT OUR LAWS NOT BE ENFORCED?
Barry Young on KFYI says Gordon wants to run for governor. Did you see this:
Arpaio: Gordon Powerless In City Govt
October 25th, 2007 @ 8:52am
by Bob McClay/KTAR
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, at odds with Phoenix over enforcement of immigration laws, says Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon is powerless and restricted by the structure of city government.
``This is a weak mayor form of government, so if people expect the mayor to be able to do miracles, he can’t,” Arpaio said Wednesday.
What can Gordon do?
``He can get up at all these press conferences and talk about all the law enforcement and all that, but he can’t tell the chief what to do,” Arpaio said.

Qwest telephone has had contractors digging in my Phoenix back yard for days.
One of them just came to the door to informed me of something . . . he doesn’t speak a word of English.
I’m not kidding.
>>Quest......he doesnt speak a word of English.<<
That is going to change come January 1, 2008. I don’t think Quest would want to lose their business license.
Thanks for posting this, donna!
Hey Reza, you're in America now, the office of Sheriff is an elected position, ICE has no "oversight" role here.
ICE having an oversight role over Sheriff Joe would be like President Bush working harder for illegal Mexicans than he does for Americans... Oh, wait... forget that.
Good post, donna.
Ping to the group....
