FAIRFIELD, Conn (AP) -- A father became so angry with his 13-year-old son for taking too long to do homework that he tied him up in their basement and beat him with a 2-by-4 until it broke, local police say.
David Rodriguez, 41, of Fairfield, was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a minor. He was arrested in Norwalk on Tuesday, the day after the alleged beating, as he prepared to leave the state, police said.
"This case goes far beyond parental discipline and is more in the realm of a degrading and brutal assault on a 13-year-old,'' Fairfield police Capt. Gary MacNamara told the Connecticut Post. "It is much more in the realm of torture.''
Rodriguez was arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday. He continued to be held on $750,000 bond Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court again Nov. 8.

Shoot the a-wipe. Then let his son shoot him. Then crap on him.
Some people are not worth the rope we should use to hang them.
Most parental discipline stories seem to stretch the definition of “abuse” here and there... this ain’t one of them. Two-by-fours don’t break very easily, so I could easily see attempted murder charges here.
Was going to question whether the father was Asian, but seems not to be.
Rope’s reusable.
In America, any name can be anything.........
Sick b@strd. I hope he spends a long time as the boyfriend of Bubba in cell block A.
I say an eye for an eye.
Tie him up, break a 2x4 over his head.
Omigosh! Now that’s overkill for doing homework.
Good point!
What difference does it make?
Yes, most liberal fail to understand the difference between a loving parent administrating a paddle on the rear end to change bad or misguided behavior and being tied up and beat with 2x4 board
Of course I guess that makes them liberal
GMTA.
This is just child abuse. Really, it's flat-out criminal assault. What always irks me is that sick cases like this become fodder for Libs who then argue that spanking a 6-year-old for stealing candy from a sibling is also "child abuse".
Corporal punishment is not always wrong. As you point out, this particular case is not involving "discipline" in any meaningful way. This is a terrible thing.
As the father of a boy who can easily turn a 10 minute homework assignment into 3 hours due to lack of focus and dawdling, I can understand getting frustrated... but this guys just beyond sick. I say tie him up and let 100 people line up and each have a crack at him.
I guess things havn’t changed that much.
Swats with a 2x4? It broke? Maybe a 1x4 pine would break. Something not right here.
It is sickening, but I bet the son was purposefully trying to antagonize the dad. Kids are brats today. Still does not excuse hitting the kid with a 2 by 4 or even a hand.
If he doesn’t get killed in a bar fight the father can count on a very lonely stay in a nursing home.
