Johannesburg-The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy has brought in an elite team of professional investigators from America to probe claims of abuse by an employee, the school told News 24 on Thursday.

"We have engaged professional investigators of the highest standing from South Africa and the United States to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry into these claims," said school CEO John Samuel.

Provincial co-ordinator of the police units investigating child abuse, superintendent Andre' Neethling, met with the team which included a retired Chicago policeman.

The academy also provided psychological support and counseling services to pupils, following the scandal at the school, where a pupil ran away after allegedly repeatedly being abused by a dormitory matron.

'Fondled' one of the girls

According to an article in Rapport newspaper, the matron at the school in Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, apparently 'fondled' one of the pupils, and assaulted another.

Police were tight lipped but have confirmed they are investigating a charge of abuse.

"Police are still taking several statements from the victims and the employees at the school," said superintendent Lungelo Dlamini. "Once the police investigation has been finalised, criminal processes will be taken against the affected employee."

The matron has taken a paid leave of absence while investigations continue, according to Samuels.

While the Rapport article alleged that Samuels failed to take action when the abuse was first reported to him, the school maintained he acted immediately.......

An update on the Oprah school sex abuse scandal.

Her own investigation or her own coverup?

Its just like some public school here in the USA

Can't they trust the police in the "new South Africa?"

Why all the fuss? There's tolerance for "alternate lifestyles" in the "new South Africa."

You may have missed the story in the fire storm of news this week.

I guess it takes a village to investigate a sex abuse scandal.

I was recovering from surgery and happened to see an Oprah show where they were opening this school. Pretty impressive effort on her part. Hopefully this can be correctly dealt with and the school continue to educate these other-wise hopeless girls.

I agree. There's no crime here. We all know now, that the left has turned our schools into a Sexual Playground for teachers. Particularly if the ones ENJOYING their right to play are female teachers, administrators, matrons. Time to move on from this non-scandal and let the matron and her sexual partner enjoy their natural and wonderful physical feelings.

I can’t fault Oprah for trying to do a good thing by opening this school.

We can hope that maybe, just maybe, this will open her and other leftist’s eyes to the cases of the homosexual Catholic priests molesting teenage boys.

Imagine Oprah, that you have thousands of schools instead of one. And bad things happen at a few of those thousands of schools. And then your political enemies want to stop the good things your are doing by focusing on the few bad things that happen. What does that feel like?

Can you relate?

I doubt it. Oprah was sexually abused as a girl, and she takes it seriously. I don’t think she would allow something like this to be covered up.
