Hunter Calls on Congress: Kill the Law of the Sea Treaty
Hunter press realease ^ | Oct. 26, 2007 | Duncan Hunter

Posted on 10/26/2007 9:26:14 AM PDT by AuntB

Amid debate on the decades-old Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) in the Senate, Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) urged his colleagues to follow the lead set by President Reagan by defeating the treaty.

Explaining the dangers of the treaty, Hunter detailed, "It is imperative that our nation does not surrender decision making power for military navigation or resource extraction, especially in this age of terrorism with technology and weapons proliferation. And adding a new set of UN bureaucrats with license to tax and adjudicate disputes is the last thing this country needs."

Hunter continued, "Rest assured no treaty that infringes on the sovereignty of the United States, or further empowers the United Nations, will get anything but a trip to the waste basket in a Hunter Administration."

Rep. Hunter has served on the House Armed Services Committee since his election to Congress in 1980 and has been that committee's chairman for four years. Serving a critical role during the Reagan Administration, he helped establish and maintain the U.S. Strategic Defense Initiative. Hunter led a delegation with Rep. Henry Hyde to the Eastern Block during the Cold War stand-off to press President Reagan's policy of solidarity. Hunter also led the Republican Congress in rebuilding the U.S. military after the Clinton Administration's devastating cuts and slashes to critical defense personnel and materiel.

Duncan Hunter didn't just get on board against the law of the sea treaty.

#13. Do you support the Law of the Sea Treaty? If not, will you revoke it if it passes before you take office?

Hunter: No, in the past I have opposed the Law of the Sea Treaty. I expect that to continue. There are serious issues of sovereignty involved, and as in the past, I have no intention of letting US sovereignty be eroded.

As evident by the FR poll, most of us would vote for Hunter if we were’nt afraid. Well daggum it, I ain’t afraid and I’m going to vote with my conscience and conviction. Why aren’t conservatives working harder to get Hunter more exposure? The MSM’s darlings are Roody and Myth followed by Thompson. Hunter’s the only true conservative amongst the bunch. I watched the debates with great dismay as I see the MSM shove Hunter to the rear.

Duncan Hunter Applauds Defeat of the DREAM Amnesty Act

Washington, D.C. – Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) applauded Republican colleagues in the Senate who yesterday were able to forestall liberal Senator Dick Durbin’s backdoor amnesty, the so-called DREAM Act. Had it passed, the act would have allowed legalization of many tens of thousands of illegal aliens and allowed their extended families to be afforded the same immigration rights as families of US citizens.

The attempted passage of the DREAM Act comes on the heels of last spring’s attempt for the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill, which, in Hunter’s words, “flies in the face of common sense.”

Commenting on the bill, Hunter chided, “This legislation should more appropriately be called the Nightmare Act. Rest assured, the Democrats see these illegal immigrants as new liberal voters and will continue to propose piecemeal methods of legalization, while being careful to never utter the term amnesty. The Senate Republicans, led by Mr. Jeff Sessions and others, earned a well-deserved ‘Thank you’ from the American people who respect the rule of law.”

Rep. Hunter authored and shepherded legislation that built a two-layer border fence outside of San Diego leading to a 53% drop in crime and 90% decrease in drug trafficking along that corridor. Hunter’s message of a stronger national defense, tighter border security, and fair trade with China is resonating with voters across the nation.

Road to Des Moines Conversions on Immigration

Washington, D.C. – Republican presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) criticized fellow GOP contenders Thompson and Romney after they released ‘position papers’ on illegal immigration apparently discovering only just recently the policy he has been advocating for years.

Both the Romney and Thompson plans talk tough on border security and cracking down on illegal immigration, but the plans beg the question as to why their records don’t reflect such rhetoric.

Rep. Hunter explained, “I can tell you that my proposals to significantly increase and strengthen deportations, penalties, interior and border enforcement, and to curtail the incentives for illegal aliens generally had few vocal allies in the US Senate…Mr. Thompson certainly was not among them.”

He continued, “As for Mr. Romney, the fact that many cities in Massachusetts were, and remain, protected sanctuaries for illegal aliens, makes one wonder if this is just one more of the those ‘I saw the light’ moments.”

This one should probably have it’s own thread also.

Giuliani’s numbers dip amid state’s Republicans

(excerpted)

“That’s an ominous sign for the front-runner,” said Mark DiCamillo of the Field Poll. “There’s a larger proportion that are holding their vote in abeyance. It’s not that Giuliani has lost it, but he’s certainly not in the same position he was two months ago - in California, anyway.”

At the same time, GOP voters are taking so-called second-tier candidates more seriously, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and congressmen Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter. Some 14 percent of California Republicans say they support one of the four second-tier candidates, compared with only 7 percent in August when the last Field Poll was conducted.

And, at a time in the race when voters are typically becoming more decisive, the number of undecided voters is also growing, up to 22 percent from 20 percent in August and 15 percent in March.

James Hanson, an unemployed computer programmer from Fremont who also took part in the survey, has already moved beyond the top-tier candidates. He supports San Diego Congressman Duncan Hunter, a Vietnam veteran who received just 3 percent support in the Field Poll.

Hanson has followed Hunter on radio and TV programs and considers him “incredibly honest.”

While Hanson was impressed with Giuliani as a “crisis manager” during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York City, he has been disappointed with Giuliani’s campaign strategy.

Good for Duncan Hunter!

However, a few days ago circulating on FR there was an article about Patty “Moron” Murray supporting the Navy building a boat that the Navy didn’t want. In the posting was some references to Duncan Hunter supporting a $63 million plane that doesn’t fly. Now, I like Duncan Hunter but these references concern me. Can any pro-Hunter person explain this? See below for the references posted about the airplane:

Not being an expert on such things, I can’t really explain it to you, but it has been hashed out numerous times if you’d like to look.

It’s encouraging that an issue like this which received relatively small amount of media coverage has now been addressed by three candidates (Thompson, Huckabee and Hunter).
