* Washington derides Iran's and North Korea's nuclear plans but mums the word when it comes to Brazil.

...

* If Brazil goes ahead with its nuclear project, it may violate the spirit of the Treaty of Tlatelolco and the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty

Big difference between a nuclear reactor to power a submarine or surface ship, and a nuclear weapon.

Of course to some people, Nuclear == Evil, no matter that a nuclear power plant emits no greenhouse gases, nor any soot, doesn't kill nearly so many miners as a coal fired plant.

Maybe it is because Brazil isn't completely insane.

The two biggest reasons for Brazil’s military buildup and interest in nuclear power are:

1. Venezuela
2. Bolivia

At the behest of his boss Thuggo Chaves, the imp from Bolivia, Evo (Evil) Morales, shut down the natural gas pipeline to Northeastern Brazil last year. Hundreds in Brazil died from heat prostration while the gas-powered electric generators were stopped.

Brazil needs nuclear power.

Gasoline is about US$5.00 per gallon, and ethanol is about US$4.80.

Portuguese-speaking Brazil has almost 200 million of the 360 million people living in South America.
