I always attributed Bill's political skills to 1) rushing beers in the back of those Hot Springs whorehouses where he grew up ("man from Hope", my patootie), 2) his years of grooming and cossetting in Arkansas' corrupt political "in club" as a Wonder Youth and 3) his later mentoring by Sen. Bill Fulbright, whom I suspected, back in the day, of being one of the KGB's men in the Senate. (We found out about Sen. John Tunney, D-Calif., later on, thanks to some guy's indefatigable dumpster-diving in KGB files several years ago, when Boris Yeltsin had them partly open for curious journalists and historians. I'm still curious about Fulbright -- and Bill Clinton, too, and all his Chinese friends.)
