If the Republican Party continues turning against the Christians that helped give it the majority, Christians won’t have any choice, but to get out of it. I’ve already got one foot out the door, and the other one isn’t anxious to get me to a Third Party where I can waste more time.

Although my differences are not necessarily because of my Christianity, but I'm like you, I've got one foot out the door because I feel like they are not the party I voted for when I was able to first start voting - the GOP as a whole has changed quite a bit while I'm still the same conservative.

It's like we are playing "Chicken" - the GOP is going to continue to move to the left (or "to the center" as defenders of Bush and Giuliani and others like to say) and those people will say "if you don't vote Republican, you'll put a Democrat in the White House" and meanwhile we are saying "if you forget the GOP's roots and the old platform and if you ignore Conservatives, you're going to put a Democrat in the White House".

It's literally a matter of who will blink. The ironic thing is, the GOP could self-destruct over this next election. They've pissed off way too many Conservatives, and if they lose, I can just imagine that they will just start piling on to Conservatives, blaming us for everything, accusing us of this or that, which will just piss us off even more, which means the GOP will find itself in even more trouble in 2010 and 2012.

I haven't seen it too much on FR ('course I haven't looked for it), but on other forums, I've seen diehard Republicans defend RINOs, and just generally freak out over the thought of conservatives either not voting or voting for a third party. In their world, whatever a Republican does is okay, whether it means being pro-life or pro-UN or pro-illegal immigrants whatever.

The only dose of reality they get is when they lose elections, and all that does is reinforce their notion that they need to move even more to the left to pick up more liberal/moderate voters rather than move back to the right and regain the old base voters.

I’m pretty sure he’s conservative (very strong Christian, been on Robertson’s 700 Club, several times..).

Plus have you heard his country gospel CD?

(Ever heard of the Country song “3 Wooden Crosses”)?

I wasnt implying that he wasnt a conservative just pointing out that a Republican does not make a conservative. The latter being one who believes in our constitution.

I like Randy Travis and I agree he is probably a conservative. I have a couple of his gospel CDs and they are some of my favorites.
