Merle Haggard has lost his mind.

Merle must be growing senile. How else could he use that "honesty" line in a song supporting Hillary Clinton? That's like including a line calling for border enforcement in a song praising La Raza.

Let's see....Hillary supports NAFTA and outsourcing. She once served on the board of Wal-Mart. And she voted for the war (though she now waffles on the issue).

Thunderstruck fans of the man who wrote the anti-hippy anthem, "Okie from Muskogee," greeted the new song with cheers and jeers when he sang it at a Seattle concert in March. Media there reported some people left the auditorium wondering if Merle was pulling their leg.

He wasn't.

"I might be biting myself in the leg here," Haggard said in an interview last week with National Public Radio, acknowledging that there isn't a lot of overlap between his fan base and Clinton's.

I think Thompson is one of the best alternatives out there, but it irritates me when somebody out there like this Rich can have a platform to make such an incorrect statement. Either he did not show much diligence in research as he said he did, or he’s just another dime-a-dozen shallow political thinker who only knows what the mass media spoon feeds him and thus should stick to picking and grinning.

Hunter’s problem has always been he hasn’t been well-known on the national stage. Candidates usually need more than one try at the office to reach the right level of recognition.

I think a Thompson-Hunter ticket would probably satisfy most here, and give Hunter the kind of widespread recognition he needs to really contend for the big job.
