The remains of a shark lies on a truck as it is transported to the college of science at Thi Qar University in Nassiriya south of Baghdad, October 24, 2007. The two-meter shark was caught in a river in southern Iraq more than 160 miles from the sea. Karim Hasan Thamir said he was fishing with his sons last week when they spotted a large fish thrashing about in his net. "I recognized the fish as a shark because I have seen one on a television programme," he told Reuters.

"Very odd." Not really. I remember reading a story about someone catching a shark in the Mississippi River---at St. Louis!! One heck of a long way from the Gulf of Mexico, that.

Curse that evil Bush. This is just more evidence that the situation in Iraq is unwinnable...We must get the troops out NOW, before MORE sharks swim inland!!!

Maybe it chased the scent of continual blood in the river water emptying into the gulf, and followed it upriver to the sources....and developed a habit of scavenging bodies dumped into the river. I wonder how many people have disappeared in the area where it was caught.
To: null and void; All
MWSS 371 [in Yuma, AZ called the “Sand Sharke”] are home right now, so there should be no sand sharks in Iraq....

You’ll know capitalism if alive and well in Iraq if they sell the sharkmeat as “scallops”.
