Rep. Shuler to Introduce Bi-partisan (Secure America through Verification and Enforcement) Act
NumbersUSA.com ^ | October 30, 2007

October 30, 2007: Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) is making final preparations on legislation emphasizing the principles of Attrition Through Enforcement. The SAVE Act will broaden and enhance border security and interior enforcement. With a number of border security Democrats and Republicans already agreeing to co-sponsor, this bipartisan effort may be Congress’s best chance to achieve substantial immigration reform this Congress.

The principle behind Attrition Through Enforcement is that living illegally in the United States will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government – at ALL LEVELS – enforces all of the laws already on the books. It is also imperative that the government with the full cooperation of the private sector, implements certain workplace enforcement measures. The goal is to make it extremely difficult for unauthorized persons to live and work in the United States. There is no need for taxpayers to watch the government spend billions of their dollars to round up and deport illegal aliens; they will buy their own bus or plane tickets back home if they can no longer earn a living here.

We know Attrition Through Enforcement works because, in states that have passed tough new laws to penalize employers of and deny public benefits to illegal aliens, the illegal aliens began to move out of those states, often before the new laws are even implemented. As it currently stands, almost 200,000 illegal aliens self-deport from the United States every year, but imagine how many more would leave if our government refused to award illegal aliens another amnesty, mandated all employers to verify a person’s eligibility to work here, cracked down on identity fraud and enabled local police to easily transfer illegal aliens in their custody to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

Schuler is full o’ BS, the State Gov of NC is bending over backwards to accomodate illegals, his window dressing does not address that at all.

When a WNC resident thinks of Heath, think Al gore “lite”.

This is an interesting and bizarre idea. A new law telling our law enforcement agencies to enforce the laws already on the books! Do I understand that correctly?

“Attrition through enforcement” - The first time I heard this phrase was Ann Coulter.

NumbersUSA is wrong to encourage conservatives to get behind Shuler. If the rats gain firm control next year, an amnesty will pass. The only hope to stop an amnesty is to support conservative candidates. Shuler will fold at the first order from her majesty. This bill is a ploy to defuse a hot button issue. Do not trust any on immigration.

That's what I thought until I read the provision that also adds 8,000 border patrol agents and expands specialized enforcement programs, such as the "Tunnel Task Force". Expansion of law enforcement and corresponding programs is the key to this bill.

I’ve known Heath since he was in 7th grade. I know his whole family.

Heath is no Al Gore.

You've got to be kidding me! Are you saying you would support this exact same bill if it were endorsed by a conservative simply because that person is a conservative? You're willingness to prevent expanding the number of border patrol agents and law enforcement programs for the sake of political opposition is a socialist Democrats dream. The goal is to force illegals out of the country ASAP. Shuler feels the heat of the people as do an increasing number of politicians. Make them pass the law and then hold their feet to the fire.

In 1984 Heath’s Uncle Chuck and I worked on getting those mountain Democrats out to vote for the late, great, statesman, Jesse Helms against Jim Hunt. In 1990 we worked together again to be sure Senator Helms beat Harvey Gantt.

Heath may not be as conservative as his family but he’s no Al Gore.

Really?

So he really didn’t duck C Taylor on 570 wwnc?

He really isn’t a part of a party that plans to raise taxes enormously in 2010?

He really isn’t a part of selling the road to nowhere families out in favor or a pay out to the county?

Do tell?

Then the key will be funding those agents. It’s one thing to call for the extra agents. It’s another thing entirely to provide funding to hire, train and employ them.

Sign of the times... even the Repubs have gone soft-headed over the Hispanic vote. But everyone of those votes costs us 50-something of their Mexican relatives..

This bill is just a ploy to help the rats retain contested seats. The rats have no intention to pass this bill. The rats want amnesty to provide a new voting base and new reasons to raise taxes. This bill is going nowhere. Conservatives should pile on this bill with lots of other provisions such as taking away anchor baby status and ending sanctuary cities.

He is a Democrat. But so he might raise taxes.

I don’t know about selling out the road to nowhere families, I’ll see what I can find out when I’m in Bryson City in December.

But he’s no Al Gore.

LOL

I guess you read the part where it would not apply to the people who enter the country during the three year period all of this BS was getting done. If it don't apply to the people who enter during the period this POS is being started then it will not apply to those already here.
