Fred was graded a mediocre "C" for his record on illegal immigration by NumbersUSA, which gave Tancredo and Hunter an A+. Both Fred and Mitt "sanctuary city" Romney are trying to revise recent history. But at least Romney was honest enough to admit whom he's now trying emulate before the base - TANCREDO!

In Massachusetts, Governor Romney Took Action To Combat Illegal Immigration:

In December 2006, Governor Romney Signed A Memorandum Of Agreement With The Federal Government Deputizing State Troopers To Enforce Immigration Laws. "Governor Mitt Romney and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ICE, which will give specially trained Massachusetts State Troopers the authority to administer and enforce federal immigration laws in the Commonwealth." (Office Of The Governor, "Governor Romney, ICE Sign Immigration Enforcement Pact," Press Release, 12/13/06)

Governor Romney Vetoed In-State Tuition For Illegal Immigrants. "Romney also vetoed a number of outside sections of the budget, including: ... A plan that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate at our public colleges and universities as Massachusetts citizens." (Office Of The Governor, "Romney Signs $22.402B Fiscal Year 2005 'No New Tax' Budget," Press Release, 6/25/04)

- Governor Romney: In-State Tuition For Illegal Immigrants "Would Be A Mistake" Conflicting With Federal Law. "Mr. Romney said he was not prepared to provide 'special benefits' to illegal immigrants in the state. 'Our desire is to help legal immigrants,' he said. 'I do not believe that, out of respect for the law, that we can provide special benefits to illegal immigrants. We have a responsibility to uphold the law, and providing special benefits to those who are here in contravention of the national law, in my view, would be a mistake.'" (John J. Monahan, "Immigrant Tuition Bill Defeated," Telegram & Gazette, 1/12/06)

Governor Romney Opposed The Issuance Of Drivers' Licenses To Illegal Immigrants. "'Those who are here illegally should not receive tacit support from our government that gives an indication of legitimacy,' the governor said, echoing arguments that opponents have voiced in the Commonwealth and in other states considering similar license measures. 'If they are here illegally, they should not get driver's licenses,' he said." (Scott S. Greenberger, "Romney Stand Dims Chances Of License For Undocumented," The Boston Globe, 10/28/03)

Tancredo has always been a class act. A bit of a loose canon at times, but on top of things.

There was a time where he was constantly being attacked as a one trick pony on this site, which is just nonsense.

I’m a Romney supporter, but I’ve been glad to see Tom in this race.

I like both Mitt and Fred. I don’t get to vote for many months and will let it all play out.

“As Governor I deputized our state police to be able to enforce immigration laws throughout the state “

which became effective the day my successor took office, not when I was in office.

Key word is effective.

I’m curious if anyone has Duncan Hunter’s record on votes in the early to mid-90s for comparison purposes. I imagine it is more of the same, but other candidates, like Thompson, are rated for this period and things are strangly silent for DH in the same time frame.

The numbersusa grade is based on the candidates voting record with respect to reducing total immigration, both legal and illegal. Fred gets good grades for reducing illegal immigration and bad grades for reducing legal immigration, and the net result is a “C”.

How is Fred “revising history” with his recent proposal regarding illegal immigration? You are implying that he has changed his mind regarding illegal immigration (numbers gives him a A+ on a couple of votes), so lets see the specifics regarding your allegation.

Fred hasn’t been in the SENATE since this IMMIGRATION stuff finally hit the fan, so to speak.

Tancredo is running on one issue, an important issue, but one issue.

As Mr. GQ (Mitt), exactly what has he done to stop the influx of ILLEGALS into this country?

N O T H I N G !

I’d like every candidate to emulate Tom Tancredo on pretty much every issue.

I think it is nearly time for Romney to endorse Thompson’s candidacy. It’s time for some unity.

The “NumbersUSA” numbers are bunk, rejected on this site six months ago.

NumbersUSA is a liberal pro-abortion, anti-birth group that demands population reduction -— for the environment.

A look at the supposedly “bad votes” by Thompson are pretty enlightening at how silly it is -— just for example, Thompson got a bad grade for wanting immigration of highly-skileed, well-educated, people who would add a lot to the economy.

To non-hacks without an agenda, there is a huge distinction between legal immigrants who add and unskilled, uneducated, ILLEGAL immigration.
