Close, I'm a northerner (ND). Those lariats look like nooses to me, they're just opened up wider. :o) Heck, when I was a kid, I had a confederate flag covering the back window of my truck. In those days, it meant you were a rebel, anti- establishment. Those were my "democrat" days.

Just think what would happen if I did that now, LoL! I'd be jumped by democrats! Maybe I should put that rebel flag back in my truck window, since it means I'm an intolerant right wing evangelist now. :o)

The small loop created at the end of the rope is called a hondo. It's used to pass the rope through to make the noose, that's the loop which is thrown.

The hangman's noose appears back in the thread, around Sadaam's neck.
