Budget Deal Struck in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Legislature and Gov. Jennifer Granholm early Wednesday finished a budget deal to fund Michigan's government, ending a nine-month fight over tax increases and spending cuts that briefly caused a government shutdown along the way.

The final agreement came a month after Granholm and lawmakers passed $1.3 billion in tax increases and gave themselves an extra 30 days to resolve the spending plan.

It would appear that the citizens of Michigan are nothing more than pawns in a game of political chess being played in Lansing. Actually, chess may be too sophisticated for our elected officials. I feel more like a pawn in the game of "Sorry". You know "Sorry"... It is a game of chance, where your fate is determined by the draw of the cards.

It is too bad we don't live in a state where the government is a body of the people, by the people and for the people.
