I did not know that. I vaguely remember that the WH might have gotten kicked around a little. Arnold went to have a sit-down with GB immediately after he was elected. He had some issues to discuss. Of course, one of them was to deal with the corruption in the California energy business Davis had signed on to. ... but there was more.
thompson not the man
It does seem like the WH would have wanted a Republican in office. But ... in this crazy mixed up world of ours ...
Do you think it might be enough to push Fred Thompson into third place in early primaries? Or little to no effect outside of California?
According to reputable pollsters, Thompson is already 2nd in Iowa, anywhere from 2nd to 4th in New Hampshire, 1st in South Carolina, and 2nd in Florida. I'm certainly hoping McClintock's endorsement doesn't push Thompson down.
Note that I used the word “reputable”. I wouldn’t trust ARG to tell me the time of day, let alone make an accurate election prediction. All of their polls have been rabidly out of line with everyone else; one has to wonder what filter they’re using for “likely voters”.
Thompson will take the ground war in CA, however, the key will be the airways..battle lines have been drawn in CA... the cons will not go lightly..
Actually, there’s a bit more of “private politics” there with Arnold. I was there, I know :)
Former President Bush and Arnold were very close friends. The current Bush WH wouldn’t have opposed Arnold on very many grounds, because of that very reason. I met Arnold on at least two AF 2 flights I made when he was on the plane in the old days.
Tom McClintock’s endorsement will give Thompson even more credibility with CA conservatives, and some from outside the state. This is a coup.
