This nation was abundantly blessed with mammalian life, bucolically munching on grasses. There were Native Americans using their wits to survive (and doing quite well at it, I might add).
This is another example of poor scholarship and an abysmal lacking in historical data provided by those who lived it. It’s easy to mislead a bunch of folks who neither took the time or had the inclination to pay attention. It’s so tragically simple to mislead poorly guided generations to faulty conclusions.
