NEW YORK — A Jewish professor found a swastika on her office door at Columbia University on Wednesday, the latest symbol of bias and hatred found at the school in recent weeks, police said.
Elizabeth Midlarsky discovered the swastika painted on her door at Teachers College, a graduate school of education affiliated with Columbia. Madonna Constantine found a noose on her office door at the college on Oct. 9. Both are professors of psychology and education.
The New York Police Department's hate crime unit is investigating both incidents. No arrests have been made, police said.
School leaders said they felt the college was being targeted because of its "deep, multicultural work."
"We are committed to maintaining that tradition by operating as an open, tolerant community," Teachers College President Susan Fuhrman and Provost Tom James said in a statement. "We will not be intimidated by these incidents."
Teachers College, founded in 1887, describes itself as the nation's oldest and largest graduate school of education.
Midlarsky's research focuses in part on altruism, and she has studied heroic rescues during the Holocaust. Her profile on the Teachers College Web site says she is working on a project on school violence.
Midlarsky did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
The discovery of the noose roiled the Ivy League campus, and students, faculty and administrators had denounced the incident targeting Constantine, who has written extensively about race.
A few days later, a caricature of a yarmulke-wearing man and a swastika were found on a university bathroom stall door. Police at the time said there was no reason to believe the two incidents were linked.
Police have said they believe one or more copycats could be responsible.
Nooses, racially charged symbols of lynchings in the Old South, have appeared in a number of recent incidents around the country.
Three white students hung nooses from a large oak tree outside a high school last year in Jena, La., fueling racial tensions. More recently, nooses have been found at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., and the Hempstead Police Department's locker room on New York's Long Island.

Bad idea, putting this on the door. But it might be more effective if they choose someone other than a JINO to make their statements. After all a JINO...........
I seem to remember that there was some kind of racially-motivated beating at Jena, which might have fuelled racial tensions. And a whole lot of race-baiters doing a whole lot of race-baiting. That might have fuelled racial tensions too.
Does anyone else remember these events? They can't have been that a big a deal, or the article would have mentioned them.
It’s not a “hoax” - he just put it there himself to “raise awareness”.

Sounds like these sleuths have already determined the motive.
They usually are. You can look it up if you want to. The teacher probably put it there herself, which is often the case.
Why is this news? Just take the stupid swastika/noose/whatever down and throw it in the trash. Making a big deal about it just what the person who put it there wanted, so why give them the satisfaction?
The equivilent of pulling a prank fire alarm at this point.

It's more likely that some of their multicultural students are expressing their multicultural feelings. Columbia has already shown that it's willing to lie down with dogs (Ahmadinejad); is it surprising that it finds itself infested with fleas?

I tend to think of such things as pranks and jokes, maybe even a hoax, but in Columbia U, anything is possible.......How can a place so full of PC Left-wing nutballs have such a thing happen in their midst?...........

No hoax. Sounds like Columbia U has at least one serial hate crime perpetrator, and probably more. In fact, it may be that the entire University is comprised of criminals just waiting for someone to look at them in the wrong way, so they will have an excuse to snap and commit a massacre.
I’m sure glad my kid doesn’t go there. We thought about sending her there, but it was too expensive, and since we aren’t poor, we could not afford it.
THAT, I believe. For multi-cultis raising awareness is only part of maintaining the revolutionary vigilance of the people against ideological backsliding and deviation from progressive orthodoxy in the struggle against capitalism. All hail, Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and Clinton!
And we know it is fake because the font she painted the swastika in ....
