University President Ends Mandatory Ideological Reeducation Program

November 2, 2007

FIRE Press Release NEWARK, Del., November 2, 2007—After an intense campaign led by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), the University of Delaware has dropped an ideological reeducation program that was referred to in the university’s own materials as a “treatment” for students’ incorrect attitudes and beliefs. The program’s stated goal was for the approximately 7,000 students in Delaware’s residence halls to adopt highly specific university-approved views on politics, race, sexuality, sociology, moral philosophy, and environmentalism. Following FIRE’s campaign, which called the attention of the national media and the blogosphere to the Orwellian program, university President Patrick Harker terminated the program, effective immediately.

“FIRE applauds President Harker for recognizing the chilling nature of this program........

Claims of victory are premature. Heads need to roll. The heads of resident life program need to get fired. Harken should get fired as well.

Oh yeah, they got them to scrap this policy - again the internet is an excellent way to protest, NOT campaign.

At worst, the perpetrators of this program should be subjected to an “ideological reeducation program”! :)

If the link below was missed by you back in March of this year, then see the larger picture of this issue at:

and, also ask yourself why no GOP leader acknowledges this glaring national problem that their Dim, leftist friends in government keep hidden.

I’m thinking more along the lines that this policy will be back in a lesser form after the hullabaloo dies down.

I agree with your “Claims of victory are premature.” Numero uno in my book is denouncing the “all whites are racists” assertion which President Harker’s administration condoned. That is a condemnation of over 200 million Americans whose taxes support the University of Delaware through federal grant funds.

He should have fired the Head of the Student Life program and everyone who approved it, then resigned himself. This is a national scandal and not merely a local one. Resignation would have been the decent thing to do.

when Whitey can no longer be blamed, someone will be forced to take total responsibility for their own life.
This will continue because it has been so very benefical for a long time, just blame whitey and life will get better.

The multiculture/diverity Nazi’s love blaming Whitey.

“I’m thinking more along the lines that this policy will be back in a lesser form after the hullabaloo dies down.”

You can bet that FIRE will be back with that announcement and restore their legal campaign against UD, if that turns out to be true.

I will start adding FIRE as a “key word” on my posting of the announcements I get from FIRE. Keep watching for them.

As others have said, and as FIRE is surely aware as well, only time will tell whether or not someone at UD tries to resurrect their political indoctrination. Stay vigilant.

If UD resurrects it, I am sure FIRE will be back on their case and I will send along any notices I get on it from FIRE. Then everyone can get back on their phones and fax machines and haul the UD President back to the public yard-arms.

Yep, my money is on the university letting people "opt out" of the indoctrination. And then the college keeps a close eye on those that do.

Latest messages from the president of FIRE:

"We are definitely working on getting the word out to as many people as possible. Our staff right now is absolutely maxed out with responding to the onslaught of calls and emails replying to our efforts."

"We have had so many students call and write in with their testimonials and accounts of their experiences in this program...positively horrifying!"

"Be sure to tune in to the Glenn Beck show today, Hannity and Colmes tonight, and O'Reilly Factor on Monday night- I will be appearing!"

"Thanks for writing in with your feedback!"

"Best,"

"Greg"

And later, this:

"Absolutely! And-"

"Be sure to watch FOX & Friends on the FOX News Channel tomorrow morning at 9.15 a.m. Eastern to see FIRE attorney Emily Guidry speak out more about this case!"

"Best,"

"Greg Lukianoff"

"President"

"FIRE"

And on that note Freepers can be proud of their role in helping FIRE on this issue.

The angle to this story that is not being emphasized is that DU’s program is a form of child abuse. These kids were in psychologically abusive environment. The adult’s who tortured these kids should be punished.

You are probably correct; just turn the tables, change the terms and value set to religious concepts and what was being done was no different that what cults do in their indoctrination techniques.

I agree, a statement that the program has ended is
not enough. Moreover, concerned ppl must find out
if it hasn’t been re-introduced under another name.
