Here in Wisconsin the whack-job environmentalists made wolves a protected species, a ban only recently lifted after farm and domestic—even humans—were attacked. Black bears are still protected even though one hunter was mauled and chewed on. I always wondered what harm would ensue if we killed every damned wolf and bear in Wisconsin? Would the world end if such predators became extinct? What do they contribute to the environment—other than to give bleeding hearts something to whine about? Or is it that humans are worth less than animals?

Wolves and bears both perform their duties in the food chain and general scheme of things (please see the Discovery Channel for details), but that is not to say that they should be protected. Animals that come to know that harm will not come to them if they enter territory occupied by humans usually cause harm.

While we don't have attacks on humans here in Louisiana, the black bear is creating ever increasing problems with destruction of property and crops. A large male torn the front porch of our deer camp to pieces, not to mention the acres of corn that he knocked down.

At least they are studying taking them off of protected status here and allowing limited hunts. I promise that when the bears start realizing that they can and will be killed by a human, they will avoid contact at every opportunity.
