Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly says Huckabee “destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party in shambles

During his years in Little Rock, Huckabee raised the state’s sales tax by 37%, the gas tax by 16% and the cigarette tax by 103% (all fall particularly hard on the poor). State spending went up a staggering 65.3% — three times the inflation rate. The state’s workforce grew by 20% and Arkansas’ general obligation debt increased $1 billion.

Huckabee also backs the so-called DC voting rights bill, telling reporters that DC residents are “American citizens. They pay taxes and it just doesn’t seem right that someone could be at least partially disenfranchised.”

When there was a bill before the Arkansas legislature to require proof of citizenship to vote and to cut off most government services to illegals, Huckabee did a passable impression of Linda Chavez, claiming the measure “inflames those who are racists and bigots and makes them think there’s a real problem. But there’s not.”

On immigration:

1. My number one priority is to secure America’s border.
We have to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here.

2. We need a fence along our border with Mexico, electronic in some places, and more highly-trained border agents.

3. Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.

3. Illegal immigrants already living among us who commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.

Sounds like he already has the qualifications to be President, or at least the Governor of CA.

No, ma’am. He most certainly is not.

#1, He was one of the most unapologetic pro-illegals Governors in the United States. He had the nerve to lambaste people as “un-Christian” for daring to oppose his views and actions.

#2, He never saw a tax he didn’t hike.

#3, He (like his RINO compatriot from Massachusetts) left his state party in absolute shambles. It is in the worst shape it has been in over 30 years. There is now only 1 Republican in federal or statewide office from Arkansas. One. Even Democrat Hawaii has more Republicans than that now. Huckster’s Democrat successor is more Conservative than he is.

He was an embarrassment and a failure as Governor.

He sure wasn’t “perfect on the issures” while governor of Arkansas.

I hope you research his actions while governor instead of looking at what he says he will do.

Truly, one of the most disturbing things to happen on the Republican side of this Presidential race in the last couple of months is for Mike Huckabee to rise from his normal 3-4 percent to perhaps 10 percent in the polls. I had expected Fred Thompson to do the rising in that time. Methinks the left wing media is boosting this huckster (yes, pun intended) in order to sap the strength of Thompson.

It would sure help if those damned "values voters" suckers would get in line, rather than chase after this fragile little butterfly...

That, madam, is 180 degrees from how he governed until this past January. He is a fraud.

Reciting points from off his website which is obviously not going to point out what he has really done, is giving you absolutely no incite into his destructive and embarrassing record.

I suggest you read this for starters:

Illegal immigration
Huckabee has been criticized for his positions on illegal immigration.[80][81] In his 2005 State of the State address, he complained that a Hispanic student was not able to get financial aid because he was an illegal alien. Huckabee said: “But when he applied for financial aid, he wasn’t eligible for the various scholarships or grants because of his status, a status that he had no decision in or control over.”[82][83] Huckabee vehemently opposed a 2005 bill sponsored by Arkansas State Senator Jim Holt which would deny state benefits to illegal immigrants, calling it “un-Christian.”[84] Huckabee argued that illegal immigrants pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits: “They pay fuel taxes. If they’re using a fake Social Security number, they’re paying Social Security taxes and will never receive any benefit. It would be closer to the truth to say they’re subsidizing Joe McCutchen and Jim Holt more than the other way around.”[85] When a Mexican consulate opened in Little Rock in 2006, Huckabee strongly supported it.[86] The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported: “Before he left office, former Gov. Mike Huckabee gave $10,000 to Little Rock. The money was given to help the consulate. Former Mayor Jim Dailey had requested that the governor match the city’s Dec. 19 contribution of $50,000 in a letter written Dec. 20. Huckabee’s contribution came from the governor’s $500,000 emergency fund and was one of roughly 20 appropriations Huckabee made from the taxpayer fund in his final days in office.”[87] Critics of Huckabee say his support of the Mexican consulate broke federal law.[88] In 2007, Huckabee said, “I just don’t think it’s realistic to say this weekend we’re going to round up 12 to 20 million young people and their children and we’re going to put them across the border and they’re never going to come back.”[89] In a 2007 interview, Huckabee argued against job loss caused by illegal immigration saying, “You know, when people say, ‘they’re taking our jobs’ — I used to hear that as Governor — and I started asking this question, ‘can you name me any person, give me their name, who can’t get a job plucking a chicken or picking a tomato or tarring a roof that would like to do that work?’ ....I never, ever, had a person who could come up with the name of a person who could not get a job because an illegal immigrant had stepped in front of them because it was either a job that person didn’t want to do or didn’t exist.”[90] Huckabee believes that Congress should seal the border and does not advocate punishing children of illegal immigrants for their parents crime. He stated in an interview with National Review, “I have always said you don’t punish a child for the crime of a parent.....Frankly, it’s in our best interest to try to get that child on to a higher level of education.”[91] In his opening remarks among Hispanic civil rights leaders at a LULAC convention, Huckabee said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base. “Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority,” Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter. He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state’s capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation. “Your gathering is so very significant for our state,” Huckabee said.[92]

Insistent Question from talking head and this is the most important issue after security for me:

TH: But you would support a constitutional amendment banning abortion, which certainly in your view would be taking a human life?

Huckabee: Absolutely. And the reason I would is for the same reason I would support a constitutional amendment that would recognize that people of different color are as much human beings as me or anyone else.

It is what the media is trying to do, except Huckster isn’t sapping Fred... it’s sapping Romney, Huckster’s RINO soulmate.

I think the mass media is suddenly pushing Huckleberry Hound into the GOP “top five” as an excuse to ignore Dr Ron Paul who is winning straw polls and online polls (legitimately!) and also conducting some impressive fund-raising.

We have Fred Thompson, who consistently voted pro-life, who hasn’t been championing the cause of the invading hordes and didn’t lay to waste the GOP of his home state. Huckster is a fraud.

I can just picture a debate between Huckster and Precious Willard... “I destroyed my state party more than any other Republican Governor !” “NO ! I destroyed my state party more than any other Republican Governor !” “Nuh-uh. I destroyed my state party more than any other Republican Governor !” “No, you didn’t. I did !” Felliniesque buffoonish caricatures of what a Presidential candidate should be.

"On immigration, Huckabee is a strong advocate of a fence across the entire U.S.–Mexico border. While Congress debates guest-worker programs, Huckabee tells me, the most important problem is being ignored. “Seal the border,” he says. “Until you do that, you don’t have any control over how many people are coming in, who they are, and where they’re going.” At the same time, Huckabee has taken criticism for his proposal, as governor, to offer Arkansas in-state tuition to illegal aliens and their children. “I have always said you don’t punish a child for the crime of a parent,” Huckabee tells me. “Frankly, it’s in our best interest to try to get that child on to a higher level of education.”
