Your Post has a lot of insight, especially points (1) and (2). I would not agree with point (3), although there are days when I think it is so.

Two comments. Tony didn’t have sufficient time to address all aspects of the media question. And he likes to present his thoughts in the context of hope and optimism, which obviously limits some of his comments. [I, however, will admit to an occasional desire for all journalists to be delivered to the Russian Gulag!]

A small celebration. But I really did have to make a Chocolate Trifle for a friend’s party tomorrow. I didn’t check the recipe until Friday morning and I’d forgotten that it was supposed to rest in the fridge for 3 days. (Not a problem if you have a fridgelet in the basement).

I haven’t told some friends yet - those at work. I will wait until I get the formal email and then I’ll resign and then tell my friends.

Those whom I’ve told have been very supportive. Two whom I have not yet told will be shocked, I think.

(2) Another area Tony partially missed is the "afflict the comfortable, comfort the afflicted" concept of journalism. The biggest issue here is that the media itself has become judge, jury and executioner to decide who is "comfortable" and who is "afflicted".

That is where we come in.

We are the "oversight committee" for the media.
