ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - President Gen. Pervez Musharraf was preparing to impose a state of emergency amid rising violence and political tensions, a private TV network reported Saturday, as top government officials decided at an extraordinary meeting to boost security in the capital, Islamabad.

Geo TV, citing unnammed official sources that a final decision to declare an emergency had been taken and that Musharraf may address the nation later tonight.

There was no official confirmation of the report, but a ruling party lawmaker and a Western diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said they had received similiar information and expected an emergency as early as Saturday night.

It happened.

CNN calling it a news blackout State of Emerg.

I dare say I hope we get some basics for dummies like me and not let the MSM Breaking News syndrome get my goat, again.

Some good sound articles coming up on that thread though.

Waiting for Cindy and the Mid East list to wake up and chime in.
