Survivor: Clinton Maintains Her '08 Lead (Dem Race Unchanged Post-Debate, Rudy Leading GOP)
Newsweek ^ | 11/02/07 | Brian Braiker

Posted on 11/03/2007 8:04:47 AM PDT by nj26

On Tuesday, at the eighth presidential debate among Democrats, front-runner Sen. Hillary Clinton came under withering fire from her top rivals, Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards. But the attacks didn't appear to do much damage, with her lead for the party's nomination unchanged, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. Almost exactly a year before election day, Clinton is also the favorite to win the White House--if only by a very small margin.

The New York senator gets 44 percent of the overall Democratic vote, compared to 24 percent for Obama (down a point since NEWSWEEK's August poll) and 12 percent for Edwards (down two points). She is the first choice of 45 percent of self-identified Democrats (compared with 39 percent of Democratic "leaners"). She also trounces Obama among Democratic female voters (48 to 19 percent) and enjoys a marginal lead among male Democratic voters (38 to 32 percent). Obama runs better among younger Democratic voters and minorities.

On the other side of the aisle, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has also held his lead over his field of competitors with 30 percent of the Republican vote. And Thompson has slipped from a high point of 22 percent support in August to 15 percent today--although he remains ahead of both Sen. John McCain (14 percent) and Mitt Romney (12 percent). The only Republican to have gained ground since August is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (at 7 percent, up from 2 percent).

Also, if you click on the link, there is a very scary photo of Hillary giving a look of death to John Edwards.

A 2 day phone poll right after the debate is too soon to make any measurement of how bad Clinton hurt herself Tuesday. This is a transparent attempt at damage control by Newsweak.

Newsweeek is far removed from Rasmussen.
Newsweek is nothing more than a shill for Democrats.

Well it looks like Dims are just kind of slow, .... you have to give them time to let something sink in. (Oh wait, that's the M-S-M template for our side!)

This article is almost an obligation of the CNN owned “Newsweak”. By all accounts she got hammered in that debate and her waffling will haunt her throughout the general election.

This poll, like almost all of the others in the past month show that Mike Huckabee has seemingly been taking away Freds support. He has gone from 2% to 7% (+5), while Fred has gone from 22% - 15% (-7). Mitt has gained 2%, while the others have pretty much stayed the same.

I have been waiting to see if McCains appeal would increase since we have seen so many polls lately that shows his electability against the Beast, yet it has not seemed to change any GOP voters.

Or another way to look at it is Rudy is still trailing the anti Rudy vote. Be intresting to see where McCain’s votes go when he finally hits the end of the money line. McCain is a resume canidate. Many old Conservative love him for his military service. Not such a slam dunk they will migrate to Rudy.

I would imagine if she murdered someone during the televised debates, the headlines for Newsweek would be the same:

Clinton maintains her lead, despite her murder of a democratic rival.

The weeks leading up to the primary ought to be a popcorn time now that the dogs are out of the gate on the dem side. If Edwards and Obama have any hope of getting the nomination, they have to hit Hillary and they have seen where she is weak. It’s got nothing to do with boys vs girls - this is dems vs the Clinton Machine. Do any of them have a big enough monkey wrench to dismember that machine?

It sure will be. And I have a feeling that we may also be hearing about what’s in the FBI files of those Democrat candidates who dare to criticize Hillary. When Bill Richardson jumped in to defend her on Tuesday night, he was buying himself a free pass...

It is interesting to see that McCain and Huckabee do much better among “Lean Republican” than Republican, which is what you might expect. However, the RINO Giuliani does better among real Republicans than he does the leaners.
