I wonder if historians generally agree on this number.

It seems high to me, although I don't remember reading any number for Asian civilian deaths attributed to the Japanese.

The numbers seem about what the common estimates are. East Asia has a huge population (Asia as a continent still has over half the human population, even with large population growth in Africa, and to a lesser extent in Latin America).
