Thats the marital advice coming from a Saudi cleric turned TV-love doctor in the middle east. You call that love? With a straight face? [...]
I saw the tape, I couldnt believe my eyes. As a self-styled doctor as Muhamad Al Arifi calls himself, he offers up what he calls good advice on TV to Muslim men, for how husbands should handle their wives if they run into a marital snag. Tender loving care? No. Counseling? Nope. He instead offers using discipline in the form of a stick.... and with a particular prop what Muhamed Al Arifi calls a toothpick (for Moby Dick maybe
).
Holding what looks like a small tree branch, he says this is the best way to beat a woman....
The story, which was first reported on FOXNews.com...Youve got to watch this guy for yourself in case you missed my report on the air today. http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1594.htm Heres hoping this doctor doesnt become the Mideast version of Dr. Phil.

“Such a peaceful, nonviolent religion.”
Yes, very cute. Let’s give them more foot washing facilities and other perks at public expense. Our country has gone berserk.

Now if islamic women can beat their husbands with a machete while men beat their wives with a stick, then things would be equal.

Lets give them more foot washing facilities and other perks at public expense. Perhaps they need private wife-beating rooms to avoid offending non-Muslims.

See;
Under which, a man is prohibited from beating his wife with any stick, larger in diameter than that of his own thumb.
It's where the phrase originated, I'm told...

Christian beats wife, he goes to jail.
Muslim beats wife, it’s his right. If he shoots her, it’s defense of his honor, and maybe manslaughter.
Calling all feminists, calling all feminists, code blue, code blue.

Ignorant twit. Women like to be assaulted only with a friendly weapon. Sometimes. I would like to see thousands of angry Muslim women, with baseball bats, marching into every mosque in the world, with the idea that homeruns are about to be committed, and no three strikes you're out either!

No, that’s not necessary. Any woman who wants to be a Muslim needs a beating.

If that guy had pulled a big old ostrich feather out of his pocket instead of that ugly little stick, and then proceeded to instruct his students to apply the feather in the same manner as he told them to apply the stick then perhaps those young men might have actually learned a lesson about getting their wife's attention.

And if a muslim wife beating case is brought before a European (or even American) court, I can just see some stupid liberal judge ruling that this is part of their culture and should be permitted.

It's been 3-4 few centuries since such dialog was heard in Western countries.
Women and children were essentially chattel prior to the modern era. This is true of the West as it is in the Third World today. Children could be consigned to factory or mine labor because they were property of the father.
Naturally, I'm not excusing Islamic crudity but historical perspective must be honest to be useful.
One of the interesting things about rooting about in the history of this in the West is the feminist myth about the "rule of thumb" which is about how big a "stick" a man can beat his wife with. In truth, laws were written and courts passed judgment against violence toward wives in the seventeenth century in both America and Britain. While enforcement among the lower classes was not strenuous, our society did not approve of such beatings or condone them legally.
An excellent piece for background that exposes the feminist myth of legal wife-beating in recent centuries in Britain and her colonies can be found at CanLaw.com:
The Rule of Thumb has nothing to do with wife beating. Lies the feminists told me.

Not many. The men over there who beat women don't have any.
