I don’t understand your logic. If the conservatives are so upset why is he leading in the polls of conservatives. I’m for Fred but I can’t ignore any candidate who attracts the attention that Rudy has. If you can’t support Rudy that’s fine, but I’m not going to turn my back on the rest of our party by sitting at home and giving it to the Democrats. I’m pretty sick of this true conservative BS. Rudy sure as hell won’t be the first Republican president that is not as conservative as I would prefer, Nixon,Ford,Bush 1,Bush 2. but he sure the hell beats any Democrat I can think of.
Rudy may lead now in some polls, but it is proven that as people discover his pro-abortion, gun-grabbing anti-2nd Amendment positions, they turn against him. It will take a few more weeks to reveal his weaknesses. The pro-life organizations will carry out a major assault on Rudy Giuliani.
And the NRA hasn’t even begun spending against Giuliani!
Rudy is not leading a majority of those polled! Conservatives DO NOT like him - what you are seeing with him leading in the polls is that the 20 to 30% of support which he has always had from the start, is still with him. He has never been able to get over that mark, because the rest of the party DOES NOT like him.
Right now, conservatives are split into little groups of support for several candidates. As those smaller candidates drop out of the race, their supporters will line up behind - probably Fred Thompson & Mitt Romney. You really don't think they'll line up behind Rudy, do you? Rudy's numbers are stagnant and he will never enjoy the support of the majority of this party.
Conservatives have to start lining up behind one candidate that can win - this is the way to defeat Rudy in the primary - and then to defeat the dems in the general.
Rudy can never defeat Hillary - he doesn't have the numbers.
Get reak, Rudy is a Democrat. That's why the liberal press is pushing him.
Every, and I mean every, time the Republicans elect a not-quite-conservative-enough candidate the party drifts a little more to the left. And, curiously enough, the party is seriously listing to port now and support is waning.
It is far past time to say enough is enough and take a stand. You can call it true conservative BS if you like, but in a few more election cycles you won't be able to tell a wit's difference between pubbies and dems if the current trend is not reversed.
