Clinton rejects secrecy charge

By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer2 hours, 31 minutes ago

Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday rejected charges she's being secretive about her role as first lady in trying to overhaul the nation's health care system.

"There's been some misunderstanding and some misrepresentation about what the facts are," said Clinton, the front-runner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Reporters asked Clinton about a series of charges that have been made about her since last Tuesday's Democratic debate. She shrugged off the attacks.

"I don't think they piled onto me the other night because I'm a woman, I think they piled on to me because I'm winning," said Clinton. "That's what happens."

The New York senator accepted the endorsement of former Vice President Walter "Fritz" Mondale, who won the party's presidential nomination in 1984.

"Fritz and I were just talking about what it's like to be leading and I'm very grateful to be earning the support of a lot of people around the country," said Clinton.

Mondale recalled the attacks he took from rivals in the primary season. "People know the only chance they have is to tear you down," he said.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been accused of withholding documents from the period when, as first lady, she worked on health care reform.

"The National Archive controls and administers presidential records, that's what they do for every president," she said.

Several reporters in the last few years have asked specifically for certain documents to be released. They were told they could not be, due to Clinton’s orders.

Kind of puts the lie to Hillary...but will the DBP report it?

What documents? The meetings were all held in secret.

Parsing:

“My husband has not withheld a single document”

Equals “My husband has witheld EVERY document, not just a single document...”

Of course he hasn’t withheld a single document—he’s withheld hundreds. You don’t think the bitch would lie, do you?

“There’s been some misunderstanding and some misrepresentation about what the facts are,”

So very Clinton. Admit that there is lying going on, as in the above statement, then a shift of focus to how she’s being mistreated, then blame someone else for the problem.

She establishes that the Archives are responsible for releasing papers, then says that her husband is not holding any papers back (at this point he does not own them anyway the Archives do).

No mention of the Bill Clinton memo asking that the papers be held until after Hillary’s hopeful first term.

A few days ago Bill said that he did write a memo, but its intent was to facilitate the early and complete release.

Either her nose should be 10 feet long, or her pants suit should be in roaring flames, with all the lies that come out of her food receptacle.

The documents could be released with one phone call from either of them and everyone knows it. They are scared to death of those documents and are probably doing everything they can right now to get them destroyed.

“There’s been some misunderstanding and some misrepresentation about what the facts are,” said Clinton,

Hmmm, which category from the old hit parade of Clinton-blame-someone-else-or-muddy-the-waters-game does this statement fall into:

a) Vast right-wing conspiracy
b) No controlling legal authority
c) These allegations are fales and I need to go back to work for the American people
d) That depends on what what the definition of withheld is
e) We are the smartest people in the world so no wonder you all would misunderstand what we are doing
f) Old news, let’s move on.
