Red, green lights to be banned?
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | November 6, 2007

A special task force in a Colorado city has recommended banning red and green lights at the Christmas holiday because they fall among the items that are too religious for the city to sponsor.

"Some symbols, even though the Supreme Court has declared that in many contexts they are secular symbols, often still send a message to some members of the community that they and their traditions are not valued and not wanted. We don't want to send that message," Seth Anthony, a spokesman for the committee, told the Fort Collins, Colo., Coloradoan.

He said the recommended language does not specifically address Christmas trees by name, but the consensus was that they would not fall within acceptable decorations.

What will be allowed are white lights and "secular" symbols not associated "with any particular holiday" such as icicles, unadorned greenery and snowflakes, the task force said.

The group was made up of members of the city's business and religious communities as well as representatives from some community groups. Members met for months to review the existing holiday display policy, which allowed white as well as multi-colored lights and wreaths and garlands.

In previous years, there also was a Christmas tree at the city's Oak Street Plaza.

A vote on the proposal will be coming up before the city council on Nov. 20, officials said.

"As far as I'm concerned, the group ended up in a very fair place in which primarily secular symbols will be used on city property," task force member Saul Hopper told the newspaper.

The existing holiday display rules were adopted in 2006 after a rabbi requested that the city display a menorah.

Yep. Last week was one of our blood drives. People ask me if I gave and I tell them I am not allowed to. Reason, drug addict.

Oh, man, I thought they were going to ban STOPLIGHTS at Xmas-time as being “offensive”!

My mistake!

‘What will be allowed are white lights and “secular” symbols not associated “with any particular holiday”’

So, we’re stuck with the BORING non-color lights.

Or, I can use my multi-color lights, but must remove each of those that is green and red? Leaving only the white, yellow, blue?

Gotta have some fun with the people around the building. When I first came on board a lot of them, including the senior management and board of directors questioned my methods and some of the clientel I was bringing on. So they already view me as an oddball that they don't have a full read on. So when I throw such statements at them, they really don't know what to believe.

And they don't question my methods or client selection any more. I just tell them to follow their accounts and if they still have questions to come see me. They never come see me and they like what they see.

But its the perception that a lot of them have of me that lets me get away with a lot of stuff too!

If the people of this Colorado town put up with this pagan nonsense, then they deserve the colorless celebration they'll get.

If I lived in that town, I'd make sure my house was covered with red and green lights from now till Christmas, and I'd ask my friends, neighbors and family to do the same. Then I'd write letters, make phone calls and get my face splashed across local TV complaining about this idiocy. Contact John Gibson and go national with the story.

There must be a local newspaper who's looking for controvery. Give it to them. Make a fuss, people.

Whatever happened to the vocal Christian majority?

NO, don’t you know? You cannot HAVE lights. Lights mean that you have hope, lights mean that you are celebrating life, lights mean you are an optimist in the face of the darkest things. Liberals HATE that stuff. They are serious, don’t you know?? And they are so smart, they really know that life sucks. Well, THEIR lives.

“Always winter never Christmas” is a perfect motto for them.

I think that if I lived in the ‘land where lights were banned,’ I would decorate my house until it looked like Disneyland, and they could come and cart me off to prison if they wanted.

Kind of like the King of Denmark wearing a yellow star when the Jews were ordered to wear one. Molon labe. Going down over Christmas lights, if necessary.

Hey, we’re supposed to have snow tonight. I guess it’s time for lights after all. Gotta go dig them out of the attic.

This is absolute one of the most craziest things that I've heard of. I wonder if Mary and Joseph string red and green lights outside the manager!!!

It's not what happened to the Christian majority but what has happened to the Christmas majority. Even people who don't believe in Christ must admit they've always enjoyed the red suited man and the "Ho, Ho, Ho". Instead of singing "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer" this year in Colorado, what will they be singing, "Rocky Mountain High"?

“The natural question here is : are they going to ban traffic signals?”

The Red Guard did that during the Cultural Revolution. All traffic lights in Beijing were changed to red because green was deemed counter revolutionary. It last a very short time before it was changed back. It caused large traffic jams plus some accidents but since most people rode bicycles or took the bus I guess the accidents weren’t too major unless you tangled with the bus Hey Hey Ho Ho Red and Green have got to go. :>)
