>>It appears that this bill would have made it a crime for a medical professional in Arkansas to provide life-saving care to an illegal immigrant who had been in an accident. If this is the case, then good for Governor Huckabee in opposing it!<<
If that were a correct interpretation of the bill, then yes it would be a bad bill (but still would not justify Huckabee’s name-calling), but after I read the text, it did not appear to me that it would have prevented life saving emergency care.
You could argue that Huckabee believed that it would have denied such care, but I think Huckabee would also oppose the rest of the bill, including the voter ID provisions.
"In that article he said I denounced Senate Bill 206 which "would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and would have required state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally." This is true, but I would have gladly supported a different Bill with the same requirements listed above.". I guess it depends on who one choses to believe.
He worked hard to get FREE "prenatal care for illegal alien pregnant mothers" passed. He worked equally as hard to pass on the message that pregnant illegals will be able to have healthy, happy babies from the womb to the nursery here in Arkansas...for FREE! That if they sought prenatal care, they shouldn't fear being "deported".
He broad-casted his message that he wanted all the new Hispanic babies born in Arkansas to be healthy and happy..as new US Citizens.
I loathe bumping your threads, dano.

“certainly Huckabee has some “compassionate conservative” leanings”
IOW, pro-life, pro-gun liberal.
He can cherish his illegals and multicultis in Arkansas till the state completes it's transition to a turd world sh!thole, but I won't have him turning tne US into the same thing- by the way, is AR still on or near the bottom of the national rankings on school quality?

Well, maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he would sign a bill that contained everything except cutting off benefits. One way of looking at that sort of position is that he believes that Christians should help those in need. Another way is that this country does not have the wherewithal to give benefits to all the billions of needy people in the world, not to mention the legal residents of the USA who are killed by a small percent of illegal aliens, who are attracted to life here partly because of those benefits.
“Face it, Shlafly and Hagan are just two ladies who don’t happen to like Huckabee.”
Not quite. Phyllis Schlafly stopped the ERA in its tracks, IMHO almost singlehandedly. She was strong in promoting conservative thought in the Republican party. IMHO [again] the conservative party would not be what it is today without her. She wrote a book about missle defense and promoted it, around the time Reagan was starting to talk about it. She was the backbone of the Republican party before they ever had one [if they have one now, people would disagree about]. She is a lady and with plenty of backbone. She just isn’t some lady who doesn’t like Huckabee.
She took on Henry Kissinger when he was an important person and IMHO she bested him in the general debate on the topic. She’s Jeanne Kirkpatrick who never held an office. She stood behind Reagan on the important issues that he talked about.
You’re free to disagree with her, I do on one subject, but she does have reputation and character and a solid conservative leadership history.
“Face it, Shlafly and Hagan are just two ladies who dont happen to like Huckabee.”
I’m not wanting to beat up on you here, but the statement you made astounds me.
Do you know what the ERA was? The Equal Rights Amendment, a constitutional amendment. To stop it, do you even have a clue as to what Phyllis Schlafly had to do? It took years, it passed through the Congress and was going through the state legislatures. She went on national talk shows including Phil Donahue. The feminazis really beat up on her. Talk about the politics of personal destruction, they tore into her about everything about her person and nothing about the ERA. She made legal arguments as to why it was wrong. They said you aren’t qualified to speak about it because you aren’t a lawyer.
Mrs. Schlafly bore up under it like a pure lady, grace under fire. She went to law school, already had a bachelor’s degree. Crammed for weeks to pass the bar exam. Another person who took the exam with her said she showed up like she hadn’t slept for quite a while, with a scarf over her head because she hadn’t had time to do her hair, and she passed the bar exam on the first try.
The ERA almost passed, my state was one of the last ones. Jimmy Carter and Rosalyn Carter were making calls to legislators in my state, personally appealing for passage of the ERA. Mrs. Schlafly got out hundreds of housewives to the state legislature in Illinois and stopped it there, as well as my state and stopped it here. It was just shy of passage, it would not have taken much for it to have passed. If people had ignored it and not spoken up it would have passed. It was really similar to the recent immigration bill, but much worse. More of a close call.
So for you [although I’m sure your intentions were not this way] to say she is “just a lady who doesn’t happen to like” Huckabee is a disrespectful slam.
Would you go to law school when you had teenagers at home just to stop a bad piece of legislation? That didn’t happen overnight. She has commitment and character and a reputation that is deserving of respect.
She also has spoken once as if she doesn’t like my favorite candidate, but I respect her and take her seriously. She is not some frivolous woman.
I didn't mean to imply she is frivolous. She is only one person, however.
