Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 11/07/2007 Pelosi Statement on Record-High Oil Prices

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today as the price of oil rose to nearly $100 per barrel:

“As the price of oil surges toward an historic high of $100 a barrel – almost four times the price when President Bush took office – the 110th Congress is committed to a New Direction for our nation on energy security.

“For the nearly seven years of the Bush Administration, the rising cost of gas and home heating oil has been a major economic stress on millions of American families. The response from President Bush has been to promote new benefits and tax breaks for an industry already enjoying record profits. The American people, not the oil industry, need help from their government.

“The New Direction Congress is negotiating the final details on a sweeping new bipartisan energy security legislation to invest in the homegrown biofuels to strengthen our national security, lower energy prices, create jobs, promote energy efficiency, and reduce the threat of global warming. We will vote soon to pass this bill and send it to the President for his signature.”

If the dems cared at all about energy security they would be looking for ways to allow drilling off our coasts, encouraging the use of clean coal and clearing the decks for nukes to be constructed plus allowing new refineries and LNG facilities to be built. They are against all those things.

One, this idiot hasn't bought a tank of gas out of her own pocket in twenty years...

Two, does a new direction in energy security mean opening ANWR? Drilling off the Florida coast, where you will soon be able to see Chinese rigs? Drilling off the West Coast?

Just what do the Dems propose for a new direction? Oil is still plentiful and relatively cheap but they won't let us explore for it. Meanwhile developing economies in China and India are locking up exploration rights around the world, including in our own backyard. Then they decry high prices and excoriate oil company profits. THEY ARE INSANE!!!!

Idiot Pelosi. If she believes in the Global Warming Conspiracy, she should be thrilled that prices are up.

Of course she simply hops on whatever issue people worry about and blames it on Bush. A very simple political strategy. But I’d say that even some of the libs are not fooled by her pandering, given the historically low (record?) approval ratings of the Pelosi/Reid Congress, so its not working at the moment.

Like he can control the demands of China and India that drove up that price.

She would like to suppress our demand by taxing the crap out of us.

My kids know more about economics than she does.

Is this a record? Only 20 words into her statement and she blames Bush.

Hey Nancy, my hemorrhoids are acting up and it is YOUR fault.

“and reduce the threat of global warming.”

That’s really what it’s all about, the bifuels, etc., just tinsel. Cap and trade of carbon credits is coming. The Democrats have been purchased by Wall Street and they are propelling us into this morass with a smile on their face.

Why not? They have hijacked the concern about energy independence and thrown around its collar the global warming special interests. Fairly successfully so far. And Bush doesn’t care as long as he gets his ineffective and corrupt biofuels subsidies in.
