Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The number of women in Congress has grown steadily over the years as the old boy's network has given way to a modern feminist world. Though groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood would think to think all of the women are pro-abortion, several pro-life stalwarts have created a new caucus for pro-life women.
Powerful pro-life women leaders are making a difference for mothers and their unborn babies in Congress and they have formed a new outreach for their efforts: the Congressional Pro-Life Women's Caucus.
"Just a few years ago, there was only one pro-life woman in Congress," Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a group dedicated to electing pro-life women, told LifeNews.com.
"Only one woman -- against a sea of pro-abortion women who all claimed that women need abortions to be happy and free," she added. "Oh how the times have changed. Today ... we have a sizable group of pro-life Congresswomen."
"The new Congressional Pro-Life Women's Caucus is a bright light and positive force for change on Capitol Hill while women and unborn children's rights are under vicious attack," Dannenfelser explained.
The group is already off to a fast start in bringing the pro-life message to the halls of Congress.
Just last week, the co-chair of that Caucus, Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado, provided a strong, pro-life, pro-woman voice at Congress' first abortion hearing. Her testimony was a passionate beacon for the Mexico City Policy that protects taxpayers from supporting groups that promote or perform abortions overseas.
Last week's Foreign Affairs Committee hearing was stacked by the pro-abortion majority to attack the pro-life policy.
But Congresswoman Musgrave, who is not on the Foreign Affairs Committee, made it her business to speak out on the issue. She volunteered to be the pro-life voice on a special Members panel at the hearing.
"We need more women Members of Congress like her," Dannenfelser said. "This band of women in Congress is pushing back the tide. They need and deserve our support."
Dannenfelser said the pro-life women "are strong, articulate, forceful champions who will not back down" and are "unflinching allies of unborn children and the mothers in poor nations who need true assistance and support to address their poverty -- not abortion."
She urged pro-life advocates to help groups like hers elect more pro-life lawmakers and pro-life women to Congress to stem the tide of the abortion industry.

Sure, that’s the ideal. Still, every voice that speaks out is a voice for the unborn. I’ll take it!
Got that right. Giuliani -— unlike even Mrs. Clinton-— has the power to destroy the Republican Party, and pull the rug out from under prolife woman legislators like the ones on the Susan B. Anthony List.
Yep, one will strengthen conservatism, the other will decimate it.
If you support the continuation of a policy that began by an invasion of a country which did not attack us, then you are "pro death".
And just to be completely honest, both of those terms are ridiculous.

Historically (for those able to consider history before they were born or concieved) it is women who OPPOSED abortion most strongly. It is the natural pro-woman position, in fact. Abortion in Susan B. Anthony’s days was restricted primarily to the prostitution trade and performed by midwives.
