Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Law Center, commented, “The Marines defended themselves from hostile fire as they were trained and authorized. That Lt. Colonel Chessani must now face a trial for their actions is both tragic and absurd. He is being tried for not investigating a crime that we now know never occurred.”

Agree, Pray that the results of the trial will prove this out.
Chessani sound like a great leader.

However, as soon as the Time magazine article appeared, the government focused on LtCol Chesani as its sacrificial lamb to the blame-America-first media. My question is "Who" is the one that started this Bullsh#t?
The NAME of the person that did or authorized the prosecution of this man must be made public. Cause there are some real Murtha wannabees in the Corps and JAG that are placing their lips on the arse of politcal correctness.
This is going to continue till the people that think it's just fun and games to drag warriors in and out of court get hammered. If this is found out to be BS, as I believe it will, the authorizing officers and people promoting this prosecution need to be named and hounded till they are at the same law firm that D.A. Nifong is going to work for.
I'd like the vets that have seen combat to reflect back on how you felt coming back home. Then to get the MP and brig treatment with you LIFE on the line.
We should be ashamed of what the lawyers are doing to our Corps.
Don't give me any grief about how "fair" the law is or how we need to let the courts decide..... Every JAG officer needs to pull point or command a unit outside the wire and then tell me how he "feels" when the shi'ite hits the fan.

If convicted this 20 year veteran and father of 5 young children (and a sixth expected shortly) who served 3 tours of duty in Iraq (in addition to Panama and the Persian Gulf War) will be dismissed from the Marine Corps, lose all of his retirement benefits, and face 2 ½ years in prison. This just proves how disposable the uniform really is at the whim of others. How dare they threaten to take away his retirement! We know who should really be in prison for starting all of this.

Kind of appears that way, lily. From the article, "The reviewing Major General added, Lt. Colonel Chessani has unlimited potential and value to the Marine Corps..." I guess his potential and value now is to be the Marine Corps scapegoat. It will be TWO years by the time he goes to trial that this whole case was created. Nothing like a speedy trial. God bless Lt. Col. Chessani and his family as they face another hurdle in this whole mess.

The Murtha bootlickers behind this travesty of justice are beneath contempt.

"That Lt. Colonel Chessani must now face a trial for their actions is both tragic and absurd. He is being tried for not investigating a crime that we now know never occurred." Continued Thompson, "Our own government has handed the insurgents a victory by removing one of our most effective combat leaders from the battle. This investigation has imperiled the lives of our troops who, in making split-second decisions whether to defend themselves, now have to consider that lawyers with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight will examine their actions under a legal microscope."How could this country and the Marine Corps possibly be proeeding with this disgraceful prosecution, and where the hell is the great General Mattis? Every time I think about this outrage I throw up in my mouth a little. Semper fi. Sure.
To: Lancey Howard
Gen Mattis disappointed a whole lot of people by tossing the hot potato over to
Lt. Gen. Samuel T. Helland and then took off for Norfolk.

The disturbing thing about this is that the Marine Corps has spent so much time and money on persecuting LTCol Chessani, that the sole purpose of a General Court Martial may just be to find him guilty of SOMETHING - anything - in order to save face and justify the expense. My guess is that the final guilty verdict will be for some generic charge, like “conduct unbecoming” because, in a pissing match between the military and an individual, the organization is not allowed to lose. Think of the court-martial of Navy Capt. McVey, the CO of the Indianapolis, sunk in WWII, in which, so desperate for a conviction, the Navy brought in the CO of the Japanese sub that fired the torpedo, to testify against Capt. McVey.
It’s all shameful, but predictable.

5 more months of sleepless nights for all of them. Why are they dragging it out so far in the future?
