UPDATE 1-Plane searched in New York after bomb threat

Police searched a plane at New York's LaGuardia airport on Thursday after a telephoned bomb threat, officials said.

An "unspecified bomb threat" was made involving American Airlines (AMR.N: Quote, Profile, Research) flight 382 from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to LaGuardia, a U.S. aviation official said.

The flight was on the tarmac at the New York airport and being searched by bomb-sniffing dogs, according to a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport.

New York City police received a phone call alerting them to a possible threat, which was relayed immediately to Port Authority police, Port Authority spokesman Alan Hicks said.
