Interesting that at the same time, over in Myanmar, Mrs. Aung San Su Kyi is cutting deals with the junta!

Masharraf has withdrawn forces from the tribal areas near Afghanistan and India to deal with the increasing unrest. If the state of emergency was declared to deal with the increasing terrorist threat, why is he withdrawing forces from areas where they plot and live?

A warlord in South Waziristan has instituted his own tax system and has a 30,000 man army allied with the Taliban. Musharraf is still cutting deals with these guys, doing prisoner swaps and removing checkpoints.

Per BBC:She has not been formally placed under house arrest, and police say the measure at her residence in Islamabad is for her own safety.

“She’s free to go anywhere but if she tries to go to the rally she’ll be stopped,” said an anonymous government official quoted by Reuters news agency.
The police chief of Rawalpindi, Saud Aziz, meanwhile warned that up to eight suicide bombers were in the city ahead of Friday’s planned protest.

“Naturally they will target big public meetings like what you have seen in Karachi,” Mr Aziz told the AFP news agency.

Just another Day in the Life of Peaceful Muslims.

I suppose following Bush’s strategy of “over there, not over here” it is better for the “fly paper” effect to do its work.

It is usually so hard to discern the good ones from the bad ones, that it seems positive if they just keep killing each other.

Sooner or later the bad guys in the tribal areas should be smacked real hard. We have waited and waited, and the prospect of Mush to do it looks like less now, rather than more.

Why isn’t the media covering the unrest in Venezuela like they are in Pakistan?
