A Failure to Lead
WSJ Opinion Journal ^ | Karl Rove

Posted on 11/09/2007 6:49:36 AM PST by HD1200

Democrats had a moment after the 2006 election, but now that moment has passed. They've squandered it. They have demonstrated both the inability and unwillingness to govern. Instead, after more than a decade in the congressional minority, they reflexively look for short-term partisan advantage and attempt to appease the party's most strident fringe. Now that Democrats have the reins of congressional power, their true colors are coming out and the public doesn't like what it sees.

The Democratic victory in 2006 was narrow. They won the House by 85,961 votes out of over 80 million cast and the Senate by a mere 3,562 out of over 62 million cast. A party that wins control by that narrow margin can quickly see its fortunes reversed when it fails to act responsibly, fails to fulfill its promises, and fails to lead.

This will absolutely drive the RATS batty. Rove sticks it to them bit time pointing out their utterly hollow promises. Besides normal Americans’ disgust with Congress (where’s my AMT fix?), even the moonbats are not happy with Reid’s and Pelosi’s inability to deliver on anything (despite a majority).

Nah, it’s still all the Republicans’ fault since the Dims don’t have a veto-proof majority. That’ll be their election slogan next year. Give Dems the real veto-proof majority and they’ll drive the boat over the falls.

That's the truth. I also liked the part where he addressed the "Congress's approval rating has fallen to its lowest point in history".

Here it is mid November and we have yet to see one dime for repair parts and other military needs. This sentence says a lot about the mess they created.

It's been at least 20 years since Congress has gone this late in passing any appropriation bills, an indication of the mess the Pelosi-Reid Congress is now in.

RE: normal Americans’ disgust with a Congress that doesn’t “fix” the gougy Alternative Minimum Tax, you may have hit the nail quite squarely, Rod1. Many of us here ain’t “normal”, eh? “Normal” people’s political interest usually ends at their tax bill, or at prices and inflation. As it did in Myanmar/Burma, when the Buddhist monks finally stirred themselved into protest over fuel price increases, money talks.

It's actually quite startling...the seeming ignorance of the Democrat party.

IMO, if they did a 180 and fully supported this administration in prosecuting the military option against al Qaeda, the Taliban, and the Iranians, it would take the issue of them being soft on terrorism off the table, and they can bring out "It's the economy, stupid"...which would resonate...at least in soundbites.

The American economy is headed for a full blown recession and even though the RATS have no sound remedy to soften it...in fact they would compound the problem...at least they can hang their strategy on the fact the voters just want a change away from the status quo..and claim the GOP brought the recession to us.

Nobody claims the American electorate is that savvy to see through their [RAT] lies.

The list of Congress's failures grows each month. No energy bill. No action on health care. No action on the mortgage crisis. No immigration reform. No progress on renewing No Child Left Behind.

Keep up that kind of talk, Karl, and you'll make me want to vote Democrat. (perish the thought!)

Hmmm, when I saw the title and the author, I had hopes it was Rove’s own autobiography. Alas, he disappoints me yet again.

Great article. It’s amusing to see the sniping against Rove. He achieved great things, and yet these days there are always losers ready to snipe at someone who dared fail sometimes. As the piece shows, he’s still fully capable of seeing his political opponent’s weak points. But he’s not the perfect conservative, so he’s a failure and all that other bull the losers of the world are so quick to toss at those who’ve changed history and yet are imperfect.
