Rudy Giuliani & Ron Paul: Republican Media Darlings?
National Ledger ^ | November 9, 2007 | JB Williams

Posted on 11/09/2007 7:03:26 AM PST by PlainOleAmerican

Dark horse candidate Ron Paul is fast becoming the media darling of the same leftist press that has been pushing Rudy Giuliani for President since 2001. This alone should make conservatives nervous about supporting either. If the leftist press approves, count me out! Most conservatives know too well why the press is pushing for these two candidates. But it’s high time the supporters of these two candidates come to grips with this reality.

(snip)

Giuliani and Paul have one very important thing in common...

It might be the only thing the two have in common, other than their shared favor in the press. But what they have in common takes precedence over all of their differences, at least in the eyes of the leftist press.

They are the only two Republicans who guarantee a divided conservative vote in 2008.

Sorry, I couldn’t get past that first sentence. If Rudy got 1/10th the airtime as either of the two leading Democrats, I might think differently. As it stands, this is a fantasy piece.

Whenever someone states that something is “THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH”, it rarely, if ever, is.

Ron Paul is a media darling with little actual support.

Giuliani has substantial popular support

Duncan Hunter has no media support and almost no popular support.

Fred is somewhere in the middle.

This is the problem with too many Americans. They only read what they already believe, and only the headlines at that. If you had read a bit further, you would have read that the press is 80% Hillary... but still promoting Giuliani and Paul over all other Republicans for what should be an obvious reason to any conservative.

Too bad the nation is only interested in TRUTH when it supports what they choose to believe. That’s why the country is still voting itself into tyranny and bankruptcy. It's also what has and will keep the conservative electorate divided, making Hillary the winner in '08. How sad!

At least if Ron Paul won we would have smaller government, sound fiscal policy. I can’t say that about the “top tier” RudyMcRomney!

I don’t agree with Ron Paul on the war..but he’s but great on a whole host of issues!..

Nobody can figure out why Hunter has not connected with conservative voters???

You will note that although Thompson has enjoyed a lot of free press, most of it has been negative attack pieces.

The press want Giuliani or Paul to win the RNC nomination. This column explains why very well.

It is true that Giuliani does split the republican vote.

Giuliani’s status as hillary’s clone simply takes out 1/4 of the republican vote without even needing a third party.

Giuliani is Defeat.

No Giuliani, NO PROBLEM.

lol, I’d argue the opposite has been true, there was hardly any coverage of Paul until this recent money bomb.

Giuliani is also the darling at Fox News.

I’ve been watching an intense bias against Thompson, from MSM, FNC and even Ann Coulter (”Thompson is no conservative”).

On different FNC shows, Thompson was said to have “no shot” (O’Reilly) and to be “plummeting in the polls” this morning by Brian Kilmeade (Fox & Friends). Last I looked, Thompson is still 2nd in most polls.

This bias towards Giuliani seems to be both sides. The bias towards Paul is from the MSM.

“Ron Paul is NOT a "Libertarian Republican."..since 9/11 Paul has become a complete nutcase conspiratorialist quasi-Anti-Semitic leftwing American-hating nutball.”

So true. But the Paultroons are conducting a very sneaky operation. I received a slick flier from them, listing all his small-government positions, and showing him in his Air Force uniform, and claiming that as a veteran he understands the need for a strong defense. Completely missing was the lunatic foreign policy he now espouses. Obviously they were trying to delude conservatives with this document, in order to get their primary votes.

Actually, Rudy McRomney are doing the same thing. Their current stance is designed to fool the conservative Republican base into backing another disastrous RINO.

That’s all fine and dandy but has nothing to do with my comment.

To clarify my comment, Rudy nor Paul are “media darlings” and there is not a shred of proof to support the notion that they are. This is just propaganda attempting to relate Paul, Rudy and the liberal media.

It is my belief that is it does come down to Hillary v. Rudy, you will see 40 states go R. Under 40 but still a wide margin of victory if any of the other R leaders take her on. Hillary is almost a big a hoax as Global Warming. Not a snowball’s chance in hell of winning.

He’s actually managed to grab headlines very well for a bottom tier candidate. Compared to top tier candidates, high profile candidates like Giuliani or Thompson, he’s had less coverage.

But like Giuliani, the liberal press gives him a positive spin when they do cover him. They love his anti-Republican rants from the Republican stage. He’s a liberals wet dream!

In this way, the column is right on!

“Giuliani is also the darling at Fox News.”

Utter BS. Sean Hannity is NOT FoxNews.

The press want Giuliani or Paul to win the RNC nomination.

But why? If it's Giuliani/Clinton, Giuliani will kill Clinton. How's she going to look (and respond) when he asks her - during an actual debate - those things such as:

GIULIANI: Hillary, what is it that you've done or accomplished the past 20 years?

Those kinds of questions will sink her, IMHO. And the MSM still wants Giuliani/Clinton?

If the MSM's objective is for Hillary to win, then you'd think the MSM would want Paul (that actually makes sense) - but not Giuliani.

Paul supporters are the same folks that define retreat and defeat as “redeployment,” withdrawal from the war on terror as some form of “support for our troops.”

Any lie that will serve the campaign is good enough for these folks, whether they are supporting Hillary or Paul. It’s the same group with the same tactics.
