From what I've seen so far, you have captured the essence of this guy's approach. And we have seen how well it has worked for W.
Interesting that both Huckabee and Bush talk about staring into people's eyes and thinking they are gaining some kind of insight. Weird. And a risky delusion for "deciders" wielding power.
This is evidence of deep crisis, which transcends the question of who gets elected.
Modern media, modern campaign finance, computers, and sixty-two fat years have combined to produce a species of "leader" whose principal life achievement is getting picked to be a leader.
Karl Rove and George W. Bush identified a way to win, twice, by putting together voters in chunks, down to the block level.
I don't think the Bush team had a single thought about conservative governance. They excelled at conservative branding, and promoting brand loyalty, but although electoral victory is necessary, it is not sufficient.
The Clinton crime family is no different - they just have a different marketing strategy.
If you read FR every day, you can find lots of GOP activist voters whose principal concern is what "their guy" can be gotten to say. Yes! Mitt is pro-life! Yes! Fred is a conservative! Yes, Huckabee has a personal relationship with You Know Who!
What these guys will DO, how they will fracture the concrete which has encased our political system and overcome the forces which prevent conservative social change? Who knows? Who cares?
Either our "system" starts to produce leaders again, or it will vanish, and soon.
