I agree we don’t want the Dead or the Illegals voting!:)
We should make voting as complex as possible. Then, only smart people would be successful in voting.
My sister voted democrat against Randy Graf because ‘Graf wants to deport my son-in-law’ - a third generation American of Mexican descent.
My sister should not be allowed to vote.
My Mom voted for Bill Clinton because “Bob Dole has mean eyebrows!” No, I’m not kidding. My Mom shouldn’t be allowed to vote - but she died this fall, so she’ll probably be a reliable democrat vote for at least another 6 election cycles...
Why people vote the way they do is frightening. I think a quiz on the US Constitution and proof that you pay taxes (not just file) should be the minimum requirement for voting.
Response: Yes.
Comment: The rule should be that citizenship must be proven to work, get medical care, food stamps, file a lawsuit, drive a car, rent or buy a house etc.
many years ago, I called the registrars office asking about this, they told me that they simply do not have the manpower to enforce ANY laws requiring citizenship to vote.
si.
As long as we're dreaming, how about treating votes like shares of stock, purchased with your tax dollars. If you pay $1-$10,000 in taxes, one vote, $10,001-$20,000, 2 votes, etc. up to a maximum of 5 votes. If you don't pay taxes, you don't have a vested interest, so you don't get to vote.
I would love that, although the drawback would be that most very rich are liberals - they don’t get rich by giving their OWN money to the poor. Liberals are almost defined by their insistence that they are moral people because they give other people’s money to good causes!
Still, I think on balance we would see more poor people excluded from voting than rich people with multiple votes. In other words, I think it would be a net gain for conservatives.
I will add my YES to yours.
A bump to a thought provoking article. How about also proving the voter is ALIVE????
Just getting baptized, right?
Thank you.
Your system neglects other people that don’t pay taxes, like students, people who are paid by foreign companies, and of course, retirees who live off of S.S. who aren’t subject to taxes.
I would be disenfranchised by your “dream” system because I happen to be a college student on disability (not for long though because I’m getting my degree and getting out of the grasp of the gub’ment).
I agree though that there should be an intelligence test before you vote. You need an intelligence and mental capacity test to be able to own a gun, which is one constitutionally protected right, so why shouldn’t you get a mental capacity and intelligence test to do another constitutionally protected right, which is to vote?
It is reasonable to believe that those with an investment will take more care of that investment than someone without a stake.
As a college student, you would have to wait before you start voting. That is a minor drawback in exchange for getting all the welfare moms and drunken bums off the voting rolls.
No, proper identity papers would discourage fraud....the only reason that Democrats oppose it!
My point is: If you don’t have a vested interest and are a net contributor to the system, perhaps you shouldn’t vote.
And that’s how you get a caste system in the election system. As much as I’m opposed to welfare you can’t just randomly disenfranchise voters. If you’re a citizen, you should have a right to say what the government says because the government has a say in your life.
Yes.
Require proof of citizenship
