The problem is that the unproductive people in this society have a disproportionately large voice simply because there are a lot of them. Further, the gov't has convinced these people that we need to punish those people who are productive through higher taxes. When 10% of the people pay 67% of the taxes, I think they've done enough. Personally, I'd like to see a flat tax, or the fair tax, so everyone pays. Until that happens, the voting in this country is not representational of the contributions each citizen makes. Finally, if only workers who paid income taxes got to vote and someone feels "disenfranchised" as you suggest, perhaps they get off their unproductive a$$e$ and get a job.
NO - DemocRATS generally oppose identity or citizenship checks because it discourages people from voting multiple times, pets from voting, and illegal aliens from voting. Democrats can't win without stuffing the ballot box - there aren't enough stupid people for that.
Absolutely!
“Finally, if only workers who paid income taxes got to vote and someone feels “disenfranchised” as you suggest, perhaps they get off their unproductive a$$e$ and get a job.”
You’re acting as though getting a job is such an easy feat. Maybe for you, yes because you probably already have a degree. I on the other hand, as a college student, find that employment is hard to get because undocumented workers are taking the jobs me and other college students should be getting.
So where do we draw the line on who should vote and who should not vote? Should we disenfranchise gay voters because their often rambunctious lifestyle is a drain on our healthcare system? Should we disenfranchise Catholic voters because they belong to churches that support amnesty? Should we disenfranchise black voters because they have a higher rate of crime? Oh wait! Let’s disenfranchise White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Americans because they tend to run their businesses into the ground after they get maximum profits out of them and they might do the same to the government.
Voting should be for every knowledgeable American Citizen and every responsible American citizen should inform ignorant voters on the issues.
To suggest we stop people from voting will no longer make us a free, democratic republic, it will turn us into another Bolivia or Mexico.
Second, you throw up a lot of straw arguments about who to disenfranchise. I already told you who I would disenfranchise...those people who don't pay any income taxes. I don't need a bogus litany of other groups you might think should be disenfranchised. Also, the groups you mentioned probably have no way to become "un-disenfranchised". With me, all they have to do is become a net contributor to the economic system.
Third, where did the
"Lets disenfranchise White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Americans because they tend to run their businesses into the ground after they get maximum profits out of them and they might do the same to the government."
come from? Do you really believe that group has its primary objective of killing the goose that lays the golden egg? That's stuff from Hollywood and rarely happens in the real world. Another straw man??
I never suggested people stop voting. All I'm saying is those who support the gov't should be the ones' to direct it. If you don't help support its financial burdens, why should you direct it? We've already seen how that works in the huge growth in entitlements over the years. Enough's enough. If you feel the poor deserve a break, fine...write them a check, but don't force me to. I'll pick and choose my own charities.
