Somehow.
Because she wants it to be true.
LOL. By sheer force of will, she will save money, somehow.
What do you want to bet she isn't interviewed after her trip?
Gotta love the media.
My sister told me she saved $30 yesterday. She had to spend close to a $100 to do so, though.
“The poor woman actually thinks she will save money.
Somehow.
Because she wants it to be true.”
She might save a bit since prices tend to be lower here goods for goods. In any event, those of us who grew up with Quebecois tourists (especially the girls!) making our summers for us, are real happy to see them back.
I saved a peck of money today. I thought about going for a drive but decided to stay home and sit on my fat arse instead.
Habs just lost to the Senators 3-1.
The important thing was that she spent her money in the USA.
Part of why I don’t think a weak dollar is all or mostly bad. US exports are way up and Canadians are coming here in droves to shop. The 3.9% GNP read of the 3rd quarter is largely due to US exports being so inexpensive and in greater demand due to the US dollar. The US media just wants to make it out to be “yet another Bush disaster.” It’s not. It’s probably something of a saving grace for the economy right now despite the credit crunch.
The Canadians are coming! Lock up your dairy products!
I live in Duluth Mn. Went to Target today. Every other car had Ontario plates. And we’re 2-3 hours from the border.
With the Canadian dollar at an all time high against the American dollar I expect an inordinate amount of them to vacation here in Florida this winter.
Great, My day is ruined just thinking about that.
I bet they still are poor tippers and cheap.
Just wait until the Canadians check out how far their loonies will go at nice, quick, efficient American hospitals. Better get your surgeries quickly before Hillary ruins it for everyone.
There goes the neighborhood!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
The Canadian media are full of hysteria, panic, and doom and gloom against their currency value rising. Some economics journalists there are screaming for investors to divest from Canadian stocks and to invest in American stocks.
The PM even scared Chinese investors away with his hint that Canada will start bringing the loonie down. That’s pretty loonie.
That’s a way of sucking up to American businesses, as the USA would buy products from there anyway. As freight fuel will only be going up most of the time, and Chinese people get ever higher wages, Canadian products will be the only sensible choices for American businesses.
Besides, Canada can be an oil exporter, if her politicians (Stelmach & co) will stop behaving like Venezuelans.
Revise practices to work with the naturally growing loonie, or suffer the consequences from vengeful investors in the rest of the world.
I saved money today too! I stayed home and didn’t go to the mall.
The great thing is that she can go to Wal-Mart today and get everything on her shopping list and still stay within her budget. There was a time in my life when dropping $150 for a pair of pants was buying a cheap pair. Now I don't give a rat's patootie about labels and such...and the $13 chinos at Walmart are just fine. :-) Considering her shopping is injecting money into our economy and paying the wages of American workers, I'd say to her, "Cross the border as much as you like - and welcome!"
What?
Our "made in China" junk is cheaper than your "made in China" junk??
Canadians come over in old clothes, buy new ones in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, change in their cars - and leave the trash in the parking lots. No duty on clothes that they have on their backs, you see. I think we are seeing the beginnings of the Ugly Canadian.
bump
I was getting 3.2 German Marks per 1 Dollar. We stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels, drove all over Western Europe burning as much diesel as the Benz would guzzle and still came back with change.
I also remember financial stories about how exports were suffering badly because of the strong dollar. It would be nice to see "Made in America" back on the shelves at Walmart again.
Um, when's the last time you went shopping in Canada?
Prices for consumer goods are typically 10% to 20% higher there even before their 15% sales tax kicks in.
It's quite worth the trip for bargain-hunting Canadians -- they wouldn't make it otherwise.
